4.4 TDV8 Blown inlet manifold

Hi

the passenger side inlet manifold has split on my 85,000 mile 2011 4.4 TDV8, so I assume the Drivers side will do the same, so I will change them both, which does not look like fun.


Is there anything else worth doing while i am in there, based on what other failures people have seen on these?

Have the oil cooler gaskets already been changed ?
If not, £20 for the two from Dan.

Where has it split ?

its split round the joint the plastic, just the same as every other JLR manifold's do, my 3.6 did this my 3ltr Disco has been the same, shame they cannot make a decent job on these parts.

Thanks for then steer on the gaskets, they have been done previously.

I am not much of a pictures and post guy, I have always admired those that can and do.

But I will post back the out come.

You might take some consolation from knowing that there has been only 1 revision of the 4.4's inlet manifolds and that your vehicle being MY11 very likely has the early versions.

thanks, that's good to know,

passenger is off, injectors all came out with no real problems, drivers side is not in stock, so it will be a future job once I receive it.Passenger side should arrive e today and hopefully back on the road tonight.

I had exactly the same (pax) side go 2 years ago. The part has been upgraded so make sure you get the newer version! the old one couldn't stand the pressure of both turbos and was inferior quality so split.

Great you can do it yourself. Mine cost £1600. only did one side and it is running perfectly 20,000 miles later. I think they renewed the injector lines (or at least they all had to come out hence the big labour cost).

I also have a 2011 TDV8 4.4 Range Rover in my Stable
Under 100k miles and services with care every 5k miles.

The Inlet manifold on the near side (UK) cracked at the interface of the manifold and down the side of the gasket.
The crack as shown is a clear failure of materials and judging by the number of reported faults by others, I was promoted my engineers to refer this to Jaguar Land Rover.

I had the breakage inspected by a Local Land Rover dealer for verification at JLR Customer supports request and they verified that it was a material fault.

However JLR has refused to contribute to either the parts or labour. As a LR owner for over 45 years and a stable of 5 vehicles I've more then demonstrated my loyalty to brand.

A plastic inlet manifold is about as secure as a chocolate teapot and when the specification is "not fit for Purpose" the second call I will make is to my lawyer.

While not a warranty matter, its an opportunity to demonstrate goodwill, but that's a very rare commodity.

Question: Has anyone else reported this fault to JLR ?

Has anyone obtained a recall notice ?

Has anyone been compensated for this "Negligence in Specification" ?

Would anyone be interested in joining me in am action to reclaim costs?. Thumbs Up

I just hate the way materials have become so sub standard. !

I'm surprised at a bill of £1,600.

When they had gone on my 3.6, which is an even less accessible engine, it cost me £800 to have both sides done (although this was gaskets, not split manifolds), inclusive of labour, parts and VAT. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thanks Everyone

I will not let this matter drop

There are far too many failures to just swallow the entire cost of this dreadful material negligence.

The more that we can co join the better as the motoring ombudsman and USA consumer units will weigh in to support

I am lucky that my son is a builder and restorer of Classic Range Rovers, however with a full order book for 3 years getting time on the lift is like hens teeth

I have great local dealer too that I've been doing business with for 30 years, and they are disgusted that JLR are refusing to assist.

Gary, 6 hours so £600 labour, £215 for injector kit x3. plus ancillaries. This was only 2 years ago. I wish it WAS £800 all in! Shocked

Revised part numbers are shown in Microcat 2012 from the start of the L405. However there were a few 4.4 engine upgrades starting with VINs from early 2012 so perhaps the revised parts were introduced around the same time or at least before the last of the L322 rather than only for the first L405.
