I see on ebay they have them cheap for 2002 to 2010 models. Mines a 2012 are they any different?

The pattern ones on eBay don't last long, and if both fail it can cost a few quid for boot damage...

I'd stick with genuine

I changed them on my 2002 and 2012 and they both looked the same... Pete

Fair enough. Think the difference is the attachment for the damper on the other side. Now I look that's pretty crumbly as well. I'm not sure the rubber cover did anything more than trapping the water in there.😅
Any idea how to remove the old one as the bolt is corroded too much to get any spanner on it? Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

Soak it in penetrating fluid for a few days and then try with a set of molegrips, they aren't usually very tight...  Pete

Wow, for a 2012 model, that is VERY rusty. Are you sure your drainage channels aren't blocked which is why it's failed? 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

The drain holes are clear, so i can't explain it. Perhaps it was a souvenir from the Titanic?
I was able to get an adjustable spanner on a couple of the remaining flats once the worst rust has flaked off, having soaked it (WD40 seems to dry too quick, but I had some spray on grease which worked lovely). The only downside was as the whole thing was seized into one ferrous lump the part of the strap scratched the paint work when being coaxed around. My fault, so I put a towel into the the space so it didn't make it worse. I've T-cut the rust staining off, but there is some minor corrosion. The other straps bolt looks just as crumbly, but I've left that alone for now.
Any ideas where is the cheapest place to get these straps is very welcome? I seen a couple of placed recommended by you guys, but wondered what you paid? Advanced Factors look about £35 but an extra £40 for delivery is steep!

I bought genuine straps from the forum sponsor Duckworths.
The price wasn't bad & at least I knew they would be genuine parts.

When you fit them, make sure that the cable ends can rotate about the pivots.
Apparently quite a few of the aftermarket parts aren't copied properly from the originals & therefore use poorly dimensioned parts which won't rotate when tightened up.
If they can't rotate they will fail prematurely. Paul,

I got no reply back from Duckworths, so ordered the parts from Advanced Factors. Lubricated them thoroughly with spray on grease and fitted the passenger side ok. The drivers side was a , as it was even worse. It took a couple of days of soaking then to get some movement I first used spanners/sockets before they'd slip, then pulling the wire up and down, then cut the wire as short as possible to give the mole grips some leverage. I removed the upper tailagate bracket to be able to unbolt the corroded mess, but the arm on the old fitting was longer that the other side so I had to snap a hacksaw blade in two and saw the 'arm' off, whilst reciting 'I hate this car' often and not quietly as I did it. Finally got it done and in a mere 1 & 1/2 hours for one bolt That bolt was NOT easy to get out! My straps must have been seized for the year I had the L322 as I've never noticed the straps rotate when I closed the tailgate before.

Mine were both broken when I bought the car 2 weeks ago (crikey, has it only been 2 weeks?🤣). Bought a couple of third party ones from Amazon (Rear Tailgate Boot Strap Cable... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08PBL66WK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

Despite the old ones being severely rusted, with a squirt of WD40 they came out easily. These are a normal nut, not hex, but work fine. Tym

If it sticks, force it. If it breaks, it needs replacing anyway.

I was tempted to get the Ebay/Amazon ones, but as we do put a lot of weight on it I didn't want to be penny wide pound foolish. I guess the nut was swollen due to corrosion, but the biggest problem was everything being corroded so the straps didn't pivot.
When older post say check your straps, they're not joking  Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

The OEM straps on my 2010 were seriously rusty under the rubbers so replaced with aftermarket and check on them on a regular basis.

If the OEM rusted so badly I am not that worried about aftermarket as long as you keep an eye on them. Tom
