Oh well jumped on the tailgate with my dog so we could cool down a bit before heading home, and the left hand side strap snapped (why is it always the left ?)

The pattern ones on eBay don't last long, and if both fail it can cost a few quid for boot damage...

Fair enough. Think the difference is the attachment for the damper on the other side. Now I look that's pretty crumbly as well. I'm not sure the rubber cover did anything more than trapping the water in there.😅

Soak it in penetrating fluid for a few days and then try with a set of molegrips, they aren't usually very tight... |

Mine broke as well the difference is the damper attachment on the o/s, got them from Advanced Factors seems ok. |

The drain holes are clear, so i can't explain it. Perhaps it was a souvenir from the Titanic? |

I got no reply back from Duckworths, so ordered the parts from Advanced Factors. Lubricated them thoroughly with spray on grease and fitted the passenger side ok. The drivers side was a |

I was tempted to get the Ebay/Amazon ones, but as we do put a lot of weight on it I didn't want to be penny wide pound foolish. I guess the nut was swollen due to corrosion, but the biggest problem was everything being corroded so the straps didn't pivot.

The OEM straps on my 2010 were seriously rusty under the rubbers so replaced with aftermarket and check on them on a regular basis.
