On fatty offroader the ivory shelf was bogging... I tried all sort and not much made an impact...

Decided I might as well just go for it... made it wet with neat TFR then spent about 30 mins jet washing it till no more suds came out, let it dry and it looked near new...

So they are very tough... Thumbs Up

I haven't got a before but this was after... you can just see two slight marks bottom right which was a thick black grease stain... It's integrity remained as before so it is waterproof...

Cheers Pete.

Have ordered a tin of the stuff Craig recommended so will give that a try first.

Interesting as I’ve always been scared of marking or damaging the material on the shelf.

This morning I unpacked the new heat shield that lives above the back box.

I then did a trial fit to make sure it went into place easily enough and the fixings were all there.

After that I decided I didn’t want the steel fixings touching the aluminium heat shield as that’s why they usually corrode away so I got an old window trim and cut spacers from it.

I then fastened the rear and side fixings using these spaces and star washers.

The front fixings were missing so I grabbed 2 tek screws, drilled a 3mm pilot hole for each screw, slathered the hole in grease and then put the screws in.

The exhaust was then refitted. It’s one piece from the down pipes to the tail pipes so it’s heavy and needs 2 people.

After that was done I made a home made tool to set the ride height after seeing someone else’s idea on here. I then calibrated each corner as they weren’t quite right.

After that was done, she came outside!

Until it’s been aligned and MOT’d I can’t use it so it’s tucked round the back where the landscapers are working. Well, they will be when they come back from their holiday so it’s out of the way. It’s the first time in 6.5 months it’s spent a night outside!!

Having spent 6 months in the workshop it’s absolutely filthy. Washing it will be very rewarding I reckon!

David, You may have seen from another thread i have ongoing that i have recently had my shelf re-covered in leather? The trimmer said without doubt, that the material covering the shelf was the most difficult material he had ever had to remove from any car part ever... So the material must take quite a harsh cleaning... Thumbs Up

I’d seen the leather on your shelf which looked fantastic. Hadn’t seen that comment though!

That gives me a bit of confidence to give it a scrub!

Spent just over 2 hours today washing shed dust and crap off the paint. Pretty pleased with how it’s come out but it could do with a trip to the detailer to bring it to life properly.

Not sure yet. Going to phone the local specialist about having a full alignment, the air con recharged and an MOT all done at the same time.

Hopefully he won’t have too long a queue to get me in!

Managed to get the local JLR specialist on the phone today. The RR is booked in for alignment, air con recharge and an MOT on 7th September.

Have decided I’m going to trailer it there so that the first time I drive it on the road is when it’s set up perfectly. Might as well make sure the first drive is as perfect as it can be!

That's a sentiment I can identify with!
It's just a pity it seems so far away. in a way, it'll be better than driving away in a new car because of the work you've put into it.

First issue found tonight as I was giving the interior a clean.

I noticed on one of the luggage tie down points in the boot there was condensation on it despite the weather being warm today. I then lifted the boot floor and saw the spare wheel was wet.

I lifted the wheel out and there was some condensation on the boot floor but no puddles or anything.

The car hasn’t been driven in the rain yet (or the dry Laughing ) so I can only assume that it’s either rain water or water from the pressure washer as it was cleaned on Sunday and that it was likely to have come in through the tailgate seal.

Thankfully I had a new tailgate seal in the workshop that I’d bought 12 months ago but hadn’t fitted so I got it out of the bag and fitted that this evening. I left the boot open for a couple of hours in the sun and everything appears to have dried out. I’ve left the wheel in the workshop and will keep an eye on it. Apparently the forecast for the weekend is heavy rain so will be a good chance to have a look.

Whilst tinkering in the boot I realised the DVD changer is jammed so I’ll need to sort that out too.
