Out of curiosity:

I have new brake pads all around as well as new wear sensors. My ABS module is absent, awaiting a spare. After 8 days of driving without an ABS module I'm now getting a "Check brake pads" warning in addition to a cascade of other bongs. Is the brake wear monitoring system operating simply on continuity or is there some kind of logic involved? I mean something related to assessment and comparison of input from other systems in addition to the sacrificial sensors? I won't have the new ABS module before Monday so if there's something else to look out for or investigate I might give it a shot.

The ABS sensors will send signals to the ABS module which in turn will send signals to other systems, from what I understand the ABS speed sensors signals are also used for the HDC and other functions, hence all the 'bongs' I would treat the car gently until the module is refitted.

As for the check brake pads warning, sounds like the sensor is not working / damaged or not fitted correctly, best to check that in case anything else is wrong. Hope this helps.

I've been driving around very carefully indeed these days. The brake pad warning somehow went away this afternoon. Should it be back, I'll have a look at the connection box. I'm sure it must be the fitting as the sensor was replaced just a few weeks ago along with pads and front calipers refurb. But really, this is all getting tiresome with the garages...

Loose spark plug
Loose exhaust
Loose transmission pan bolts
Loose battery lead
ABS module up during attempted repairs
Improperly fitted pad wear sensors (possibly)

And I'm not taking the car to cheap shady places

Where does this all end? I'm so tired of diligently arranging maintenance jobs which end up sloppily carried out. I'm seriously considering selling it.

Warning had disappeared on its own for a few days. But as expected came back. Raised to off road height, turned the wheel full lock to the left and popped the black connection box open. The pad wear sensor connector was snug, so nothing obviously wrong. Tried jumping the two leads and warning disappeared. So after a little gentle bending of the terminals with a safety pin, reconnected the plugs and all was sorted.

Does anyone have a spare brake pad wear sensor plug? Not the one of the sacrificial wear sensor; the one on the car.
I'm at my wits' end trying to get a connection to last more than a few days before a false brake pad warning pops up again.
I've tried deforming the female leads to get a snug fit and contact. Tried adding some extra wire within the female leads to the same effect. It all works for a few days or weeks at best then off it goes again.
For love or money, I can't seem to be able to find another connector over here...

Just short it out and monitor the pads wear visually. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I've thought about it but it isn't difficult to have a working system as this is a minor issue. Just want to stick to the original design. It's just a 2 wire cable and if I can't fix it as it's meant to be I'll resort to some screw down terminal connector.
