Having taken the plunge and ordered my next car (an EV) I am considering the Solar PV option.
has anyone else made the step to solar energy and seen a decent reduction in their bills? It concerns me that the payback is looking at about 20 years at the moment, hardly worth while. Christian. End of April this year my Solar PV & Battery was installed. I was on Octopus GO for EV etc and my monthly outgoing was £178. Octopus wanted to increase it to £565 but looking at my previous years use and using the new tariff prices £465 was the right amount.

13 panel system tied into a 3.6kwh inverter, no batteries, lucky enough to obtain a grant for 60% of the cost, run a swimming pool pump (750w 8hrs a day) and ashp when required last months bill 34e. |

Octopus are cheap and you’re correct £0.075 off peak. The price hike at the end of tariff went from £0.05 / £0.132 to £0.075 / £0.292 along with 4p on the standing charge. Gas went from £0.023 to £0.113 per kWh too. We’ve moved water heating over to electric and we will be making greater use of heatpumps this winter.

Totally agree from the SolarPV perspective but put a battery into the equation, charge it up off peak / agile and again, youre on a winner. I'm just starting on nailing together another battery, with it's own inverter and BMS etc, dead easy build, loads on youtube.
