2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Baltic Blue

Leak found

It’s the condenser. At least it wasn’t something I did when doing the heads.

It’s also a very small leak.

More annoyingly, first step of changing the condenser is to drain the cooling radiator and remove that. Typical after I’ve just put nearly 15 litres of fresh coolant into it!

What’s wound me up the most is the leaking radiator I’ve found though! After I drained it and when I’ve been working down there I’ve had a thick piece of cardboard across the front of it to protect it but when looking at it tonight it’s got some lovely pink staining on it that doesn’t look fresh. It’s wet right in the bottom right corner which is fairly hidden from where I’ve been working too.

Oh well… another parts order going in.

I've had good results on that size of leak with Errecom Extreme Ultra leak sealer, it comes in a syringe with a couple of adaptors so you can add it to the low side service coupling - Ideally add it whilst the system is vacuumed but it can be added when the system is charged and running.

If you thing it's worth a try, PM me your address as I have a 'spare' kit you can have.

Radiator and condenser removed tonight in under an hour.

New ones have been dispatched and will be here tomorrow according to the notification i’ve had from APC Overnight

Ordered from Island 4x4 at 21:10 on Monday evening, dispatched at 14:15 yesterday and delivered at 11:45 this morning

For scale, that window sill is 41” above the slabs!

One of the boxes was a bit battered:

Thankfully though it was a box inside a box.

The radiator is very securely strapped to the box and cannot move. That’s a Samsung Galaxy S10 on the radiator for scale. It’s about 2” thick too!

The radiator that I removed from my car last night is a Behr radiator with a Land Rover stick on it. This one is a Behr one minus the Land Rover sticker and was half the price of the LR one

The box for the air conditioning condenser, although intact, you could hear something banging around inside it.

Upon opening it, the condenser was strapped to a piece of cardboard that was smaller then the box itself so it was free to move around inside the box. Disappointing for Nissens, I thought they were a decent enough product.

Again, work Galaxy S10 on the condenser for scale.

Hopefully get reassembly finished after work today.

Finished work at 5 and went straight out to the workshop this evening.

New radiator and condenser slid into place and secured no problem at all. When I went to attached the lowest coolant pipe to the new radiator something looked a bit out of place and didn't sit right so I slid the new radiator back out and positioned it next to the old one.

Anyway, email sent to Island 4x4 to get a resolution. Lets hope that they resolve it as quickly as they dispatched the last one!

Googling the part number on the box suggests that it's likely the wrong part in the box as the images all match what I need

I looked at Advanced Factors but there website doesn’t state what make they supply.

Island 4x4 were advertised the Behr radiator which is the same make as the genuine LR one.

Island 4x4 have just been on the blower. They've spoken to their supplier who have checked all the other boxes and confirmed that the radiator in the box is indeed the wrong one. They've got 1 other one in stock like this so they've also removed this from their stock.

They're sending the correct one this evening and it should arrive tomorrow

They believe the one in the box is for a 5.0 Supercharger after they've looked at the drawings.

Irritating it's happened but the service in sorting their fault has been superb.

We've just fitted a 4.2 rad today. Same thing, wrong one in the box

But it was ordered about 3 weeks ago. Supposed to be another here today, but TNT never turned up with it
