I picked up my car a few weeks ago and am loving it. LWB 5.0 SC. Its a massive upgrade to my previous L322.

The only thing i am a little disappointed with is the exhaust note. I know that these are luxury cars and most of my mileage will be sensible driving in comfort with no desire for road/engine/exhaust noise but I went for the SC model so that i could have a little fun when i wanted to.

I believe the engine is the same as used for the sport SVR's all be it not tuned in the same way. The car moves incredibly well when you put your foot down but there is no real exhaust noise with it. I was expecting it to sound a little more lively when you put your foot down in the same way some of the other manufacturers do and the SVR.

Is there anything that can be done to get a nice rumble from the exhaust on start up and under a heavy foot (I dont want loud noise under normal driving). I dont want large mods as i like the out the factory set up but if there was an easy tweak that would give this result i would be very interested.

Is there anything you can recomend?

That's easy, do what I did to my first car, a 1967 850cc Mini...

It didn't sound loud enough so, get one 6 inch nail and a large hammer... keep hammering the nail through the rear exhaust box until the desired sportiness is released....

The 5.0 SVA has quite a burble to it compared to the stock 5.0 Supercharged I believe. Might be worth looking to see what the difference is on the exhaust.

You can change the rear boxes to the SVA exhaust which is a Janspeed box which is standard fitment by SVO, that will give a nice sound.

The SVA has a nice grumple and burble and I think will give you what you are looking for, without it being too intrusive.

Yes, it is a straight fitment SWB or LWB you only issue you need to consider is the tailpipes but the SVA Janspeed boxes require tailpipes to be fitted either way so I am sure you can make it work with some standard down turn tailpipes.

Would you replace the full system he is selling or just the back boxes? Are standard downturn pipes easily available?

I'm in the same boat and have been researching the crap out of this.

I like the sound of the new Defender V8s and would like something similar.

Thinking that I will replace the rear mufflers with small Maganflows in an attempt to round-out the raw sound a little. And if it's still too quiet for my liking I may delete the resonator closest to the rear of the vehicle.

Do any of you follow the YouTubers like petrol ped/ it’s Joel/ etc?


There is a company both have previewed on their channels that do exactly what you require.

They tune exhausts to the owners liking and can even add a button that operates the butterfly valve in the baffling to give 2 or 3 modes of sound. They achieve this by using the oem parts in places and obviously swapping some out.

The problem usually with releasing more sound is unwanted drone or harshness or volume that you have to ‘live with”.
It’s a great system as it runs stock when suits (for early morning/ late night starts & motorways etc) then allows more sound when you want to hear it with no trade off.

Hi All

When I bought my 5.0 SC a few weeks back I was not getting on with the exhaust as I felt that it was a bit too intrusive at cruise.
Nice under load and pulling with a suitable growl. Just a bit too harsh when cruising.
It is an aftermarket quicksilver system.
Not fitted by me but quite a lot of money was spent by the previous owner (I still have the receipt)
If anyone wants more information please let me know.

Have not done anything yet but have been keeping an eye out for SVA systems on ebay. Nothing yet. I like the idea of having a system u can switch from stock sound to more aggresive as the mood suits. I will check out the YouTube channels for info on that set up

I used to have one on my EVO 10 MR - worked well.

An exhaust specialist here in Alberta advised me that Cut Out valves are not recommended for winter use or for crossing streams! Otherwise, I was keen to go that route.

As someone mentioned, the RRV8 is "effectively" the same as the V8 in the Jaguar F Type, and that growls. Surely can't be too hard to get the exhaust note sorted on a standard L405.

Mine has tye Quicksilver fitted by a previous owner. It makes people jump when it first starts but is not intrusive in regular driving. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged
