That’ll be a coolant leak then…

Having had to top up the coolant a couple of times, I added some uv dye to try and trace the leak… suffice to say I think it’s pretty clear cut it’s coming down the back of the engine Laughing

So time to explore from the top to narrow it down in more detail. Despite there being plenty of talk about the oil cooler and issues, I don’t see much on the way of guides, so I’ll try and photo the process for here. V8 or else ...

My guess is that it’s the crossover coolant pipe at back of supercharger. If your vehicle is a 5 litre V8. Known weakness on pre 2017 (I think).

So I’ve bought a bore scope off amazon which arrived today which I’ll try later on ( maybe when it’s less cold in the dark ! ). I figured that reading the talk of brittle pipes when pulling things apart, I would want to do as much as I could with things in situ to try and find the leak, and only then once I have the part make effort to replace. V8 or else ...

I've had a similar issue and it was the thermostat housing LR036058 and the upper water outlet LR111459. The parts are on back order and have been for four months. Rumour has it they'll be available end of May.
There are none in the country or it seems as far as Latvia which is as far as I've cast my net.
Mines being sent back to me with the leak still dribbling as I don't have another car to pull my caravan. LR have offered £50/day for an Enterprise rental but that won't pull a caravan either.
My post is a couple down from yours regarding part on back order.

I’ve tried, North American, and South Africa as well for those 2 parts , no chance !!
I’ve heard as well, they might be available end of May.
My car is in bits, and will remain so until parts are available.

I was lucky insofar as they didn’t actually strip the leaky part. My cars taking about a cupful a month. I’m told the likelihood is that it’s just an O ring but LR won’t repair and need to chuck £200 worth of plastic at it.

@Huwrhys:

You mean YOU’LL have to chuck £200 worth of “plastic” at it! Rolling with laughter

(and possibly a bit more than that Sad )

Good luck, chaps! “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

It's £750 for LR to do it but I've had it authorised by the Ext Warranty.
In addition I got a lower N/S control arm replaced but not on the Ext Warranty as such but on the MOT insurance that comes with it. Seems it's wear and tear for the warranty but as the car is insured to pass the MOT it was sorted by them. Also a £750 cost.
I was quoted £4k after my recent service for new brake discs and pads, the water leak plus another from the hose which is situated under the reservoir and some ARB bushes. I managed to get it all done for £510 using EBC Green Stuff brakes and the discs were given to me by GSF car parts as a goodwill gesture for getting the delivery wrong!!! £200 worth for nothing.
LR wanted £370 to fix the bootlid and glovebox because they didn't understand Valet mode???

I also have the use of my wife's Fiat 500, same issue with the twin axle.
I have to admit I love it. She bought it 9 years ago with 13000 on the clock on it's third birthday. It now has 24000 and is just over 12 years old. It never needs anything doing to it apart from a service every couple of years, road tax is £30/yr. Whats not to love.
Ride is acceptable around town but a little tiresome on a run, seats are really comfy for an arse as wide and heavy as mine. Not hers of course.
I should say sorry to the OP for straying off topic.
Back on course.

No its, all fine. Similar thoughts. Although I thought the thermostat was at the front half of the V, and its not obvious that its leaking from there, I cant see any UV stains below it or around it that are anything like as obvious as the picture of it running down the back. V8 or else ...

I know, I thought the same but they described my leak as running over the transmission. I’m not sure they know what the hell they’re doing tbh. Rolling Eyes

Having dropped my car in over a month ago to have two hoses replaced, one from the reservoir and the other one missed diagnosed as being near the oil cooler. The car was returned without an operational heater which had been working perfectly well beforehand. It’s been back to the main dealers twice now to get the heater working and despite having vacuum filled the cooling system, the heater is still not working. Does anyone have any thoughts, the main dealer say that because I have a very minor leak in the thermostat housing they can’t fill the system entirely, does this sound reasonable to you? I have to say I’ve been arguing it for some time now.
