How many miles and what was the service history? Very rare to have these engines fail internally unless they have been neglected. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

You are very unlucky then. Mine’s nearing that mileage but the trade in value is less than the quote for the engine so think carefully before you commit. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

what were the oil period changes from the history of the last owner? and was it a main dealer or indy or Halfords . it sounds like very long oil changes and very cheap oil has been used . which has made the oil ring or rings sized around the piston. new vehicle purchase

Regardless of the cause, that's gone now - Cost to repair, well, what is the value to you? trade-in value is only what someone else determines it is worth. How big is your 'to do' list? are there underlying issues? if you were looking at an ongoing spend, then cut your losses - if it's pretty sound, then get the engine sorted. |

Feel for you - I was in a similar position when the GM gearbox on my L322 failed.

Is the engine still running fine except for the ticking and noise when you take the filler cap off. |
