2010 vogue tdv8 aircon

Hi
I have a 2010 vogue tdv8 and the air con works fine while driving along but in traffic it starts to blow warm .
I've removed the grill today to check the electric fan but can't see one I can only see the viscous fan . This works.
Cars I've owned in the past have had electric fans in front of the condenser is this not the case with the vogue.

Thanks
Andy

4.4 TDV8? If yes, I'd bet the valve in the air con compressor if shot. Fit a new compressor. Seen it lots of times including my own motor. Does it have a fan fitted for the Aircon normally.
If I drive normally its as cold as you like just when I stow down in traffic . Like the condenser isn't cold enough

There is a known issue with the RCV valve on the air con compressor. It makes it do all sorts of strange things, with a few different symptoms.

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic43778...ed+air+con

Its a bit hit and Miss how it behaves.

Would be my first thing to investigate.

Not sure…can’t see it on the diagrams.

The Workshop Manual is in the Wiki for download.

More knowledgeable AC folk will be along soon…

It's a PWM controlled viscous coupling, I've had issues with these over the years - not a common failure but one that can affect the aircon.
First check - can you hear the fan 'roar' slightly within a minute of starting the engine from cold? (i.e. does it achieve 100% lockup - one of the self tests the ECM does if not run for a while).
Second check - if you have diagnostics, can you read the fan speed, and does it vary with engine speed / aircon load?
There is no secondary electric fan on a UK / EU specification vehicle.

I'll check the fan speed today. I can hear the fan spinning from time to time. Should it vary with the air con switched on

Dependent upon load, yes - also check the reading from the refrigerant pressure sensor if you can. Have you had the refrigerant charge weight (not pressure!) checked?

I had exactly the same issue as you. Fine on the move but no air con in traffic. A bootfull over 2,000 rpm for a few seconds and it would come back in 30-60s.

As others are telling you, it's the known issue with the Refrigerant Control Valve on the air con compressor. The compressor has to be removed to replace it and as these are now over 10 years old, it's best to replace the entire compressor.

The cause of your issue isn't going to be anything else so, just a warning before spending money and/or time on fan couplings, re-gassing etc.

Expect to pay £800-£1,000 for a garage to supply and fit a new one and re-gas or if you're handy, here's the DIY guide I wrote:

Hi .
I've plugged in this morning and only can see fan pulse not speed.
I can hear the fan over the engine noise.
To do the job myself what's the cost of a compressor . I can get re gasses locally.

£290 for a compressor from Maltings Offroad or Advanced Factors.

Vacuuming of the gas i got done for free.

Pressure test and re-gas is about £50-80. I got mine pressure tested and recharged by Kwikfit for £60 on a pre-booked appointment.

Otherwise, no other costs if you have the tools. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
