I would like to change my original LR tow bar electronics from 7 pin to 13 pin!
Do I need to change the ECU? Which parts do I need?
If possible I’d like to keep it original!

I know but only parts for L322 newer than 2006 were posted! Still did not find the proper parts and nonody vould tell me if I can keep my existing ECU or if I need a mew one!

I can’t think of any reason you would need to change the trailer socket ecu, serving one new 13 pin socket is no different to serving the two existing 7 pin sockets. The ecu is still doing the same job.
I’m not sure what you need in the way of advice but if l was doing it l would cut the existing cables just behind each existing socket, hopefully having made a note of what conductor was connected to which pin in each of the sockets.
Then pull the two existing cables through into the boot back to a position you can position a waterproof electrical joint box. Don’t buy a small joint box, you will need a bit of room to joint the various cables.
It’s then simply a case of running a 13 core cable from your joint box to your new 13 pin socket.
Personally l would connect the 13 core cable to the new 13 pin socket and then mount it to the car first.
It’s then a case of connecting your new cable conductors to the two existing cable conductors by your chosen method.
I would recommend soldering each joint the then covering each joint with heat shrink sleeving.
Provided you have been careful, your new 13 pin socket should now work.

Or, just use a twin (7 pin) socket to single (13 pin) adaptor lead. No need for the potential of b*gg&r^ng things up. Previous cars:

I would leave as is & if you need to tow trailers with 13-pin plugs then use an adaptor.

Also, bear in mind 13-pin sockets are MOT test items whereas 7-pin are not.

Yes you can just rewire the 2 7 pin sockets to a 13 pin. The functions are the same, its just a different plug.
I did it to mine as my caravan and are trailer are 13 pin. And you can use a converter for 13 pin to 7 pin if need.

I didn't use any junction boxes, just cut the wires right at the back of the existing plugs

I used this plug, as the back accepts 2 cables, so it made the job fairly easy.

It is a bit fiddle to do.

Had to modify the plate the socket bolts on to, just filed the hole a little bigger
