Yeah I get that, but with 4-5 on the rears and some cheap rubbish on the front, I only just bought the car, I would be best to put the new on the rear and move the 4-5mm to front? Not going to buy 4 new ones. what is the drive ratio front and back out of interest?

4-5mm should be OK on the front ( I'm on that all round) if they are the same tyre model. AFAIK the power split is 50/50 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Appreciate this is an older thread, but I'm looking to prepare for an essential investment of 4 new tyres on my 2011MY 4.4TDV8, and have been looking around at the options and came across these posts. I want to remain faithful to the original size, but something slightly more chunky than the knackered front Conti Cross-Contact UHPs and dubious rear Accelera Iota rears she came with. Anyway, I digress, came across this chart which some of you might find useful!

@wynno, am just putting 2 new Pirelli verde all season on my rear at £143 each, fitted. they haven't been too bad but edges on the front we'e worn to the minimum (I do tend to heavy/fast corner). The fronts lasted just over 25,000 miles and I put the rears on the front (still lots of tread) last month.

I think the Scorpion Zero are a newer version and are better on fuel and noise but slightly more expensive Chris

Verde all round and very happy ( apart from the price) for an all season tyre. When you say you want something ‘chunky’ do you ‘need’ proper off road capability? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Has anyone used these - Michelin Cross Climate, good or bad experience ?

£390 for 2 seems very good Merchy for Michelins.

@Merchy - those Michelins have a distinctive tread pattern - the FFRR is no sports car, but they will almost certainly have different handling characteristics to your other 2 tyres. Not seen those on a FFRR before.

@Wynno - on the L322, the Contis had a reputation for the front outside edges to get badly scrubbed - they are great on the L405 but for some reason didn't mix well with the L322 - unless you drive like Stan a bit more here

Some thoughts on the Coopers on this thread - AT3's are a completely different tyre though and I'd only be considering them if you drove on mud a lot and motorways not so much.

Alistair, I know what you mean about distinctive, I did have one of those 'ohmegawd' moments when I first saw them, but as I wrote, I had no real choice in the matter at the time.

I have since had time to chuck the barge around a bit and surprisingly the back seems to be a bit 'grippier'
( Possibly because they are new? ) As soon as the fronts wear down a bit more I will put the same on the front, so all four match.It does get used in muddy fields now and then so these will prove useful. Once on all four I will post about the handling. Wynno, After some research, you were right about the price, looks like I got a good deal, from a local family business that has a very good reputation.

@Wynno , my brother has Goodyear Wrangler Duratek. He lives in the peak district and wanted them for the snow. Fit the chunky look criterion. Do your own research, obviously.

I've just gone for four Goodyear Eagle F1 SUV and they are really decent. Grip the road well, some screeching when cornering hard which lets you know they are close to the limit. Christian.

Merchy, I had them tyres on a Santa Fe [I know] and had to do an emergency stop on a very slippy winter road and they gripped that well the ABS didn't even kick in.

Kevinp thanks for the comment, that's re-affirmed my decision to put the same on the front

There are so many tyres available, that it can be a confusing subject and lots of people have different criteria when choosing brands / types etc for different purposes. At least this thread will give people good info about various tyres, so that they can then choose a tyre with confidence.

Merchy those Goodyears are on offer at the moment at a well known high street tyre outfit with a blue logo.

For my 255/50R20s it's coming in at just under £670 for 4 'Eagle F1 Asymmetric SUV's all in which is a very good deal.

I need to get my four wheel alignment sorted first, I don't want to put on new tyres and immediately knacker them. Not sure I trust the blue logo guys to do that correctly, if I start asking about 'Tight Tolerance Mode' they will look at me blankly I'm pretty sure. Current - 2010 Range Rover 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE Auto
