Replacement starter motor issue

Hello, I finally had the starter issues that have been mentioned many times on here.

I bought last week what I thought was the correct replacement but now having got the old one out the solenoid is in a different position. I don't know if my original is incorrect or the replacement. Has anyone come across this before ?

It's a late 2012 TD V8 Westminster

I haven't tried to see if it might fit as I don't want to get it dirty if it should have to be changed so thought I would ask here first, thanks.

Having just re-looked at what I ordered on the opie oil site by my numberplate, it might be for a later SDV8 Sad

I think you will find the same bottom-end so should be the same as 2010 onwards? I believe that the 4.4 v8 were all the same engine maybe they have given you one for a 3.0
model?

Having looked into it in more detail Opies web site....

On entering my reg no it comes up with a choice, standard or stop/start. So I ordered DSN1420, a non stop/ start

When I enter just the year, model etc it comes up with DSN 1207 which is obviously a different part no, which is I guess they one I should have ordered, so I think I will wait until Monday and give them a call to hopefully sort it out, thanks

The main problem with the starter is the solenoid the contacts get carbon build-up which can be cleaned off?
My starter took off 2012 AB

You need a DSN 1207.

Thanks for the replies.
Just to update. Opie oils could not provide a match for my original starter motor. They were very good and refunded with no problems at all. They also got in touch with Denso and they also could not provide a match between the previously mentioned Dsn 1207 starter and the part number of mine.
So in the end I bought one direct from LR just to get it back on the road. (Which exactly matched mine) Less than 24 hrs after ordering it’s all fixed now.
I do wonder if the very last 2012 ones are different?
By the way, it absolutely would not come out by the method I have read on here via the anti roll bar gap. It’s a least 10mm bigger which ever way you try it.
In the end it came out through the triangular gap in the lower subframe fairly easily, though it was a bit harder to get the new one in a couple of days later with no gravity to help !

I had a similar problem. Opie oils website identified my 2012 TDV8 4.4 L322 as an L405 and supplied a Denso Starter DSN 1420. I have a 2011 TDV8 4.4 which Opies site correctly identifies and provides the DSN 1207.

Opie have been really good and there is much confusion over these late L322's that are identifying as L405's.

If you have a 2010 to 2012 L322 (Mk III) TDV8 4.4, you need a Denso DSN 1207 starter motor. I hope this helps.

The starters look very similar as shown in the photo. One fits, the other does not. RR L322 TDV8 4.4 SE 2019 to present
RR L322 TDV8 4.4 - 2016 to present
Discovery 2 TD5 - 2010 to 2016
Discovery 1 - 2000 to 2010
