Tow bar frame and side steps transfer from 2004 to 2010

I am looking to upgrade from my 2004 Td6 to a 2010/11 L322 and wondered if I could transfer the tow bar frame and fixed side steps (both OEM) from my old car to the new one if the replacement does not have them fitted already?

Would it just be a straight swap? Tom

Should all move across, though I understand the exhaust hanger is in a different place on the tow bar frame, so you might need to fabricate that.

Still easier than finding another tow bar I recon….

And if you want the rear luggage net cassette… the new car might not have the side trims for it to clip in to.

Great to know, thanks for the info.

I retrofitted the luggage cassette on my old car and it had the roof clips already in place, not sure I am too bothered about having it in the new car, but will check just in case! Tom

Not the roof clips, they will be there, it’s where the whole thing clips in on top of the plastic side trims near the rear side windows.

Took the cassette out my TD6…. Then the 2011 didn’t have the mounts 🤣.

Ah, yes the button release vented plastic side shoulder trims with the silver lines. Definitely worth keeping the old trims and cassette just in case. I remember the hassle of getting them from the main dealer back in 2012 so would probably be even worse now. Tom

All I'd say is it might be quicker and easier to buy a new tow bar. The steps shouldn't be so bad to remove (bear in mind there may be a hole drilled in the front panels for the mud flaps) but the big old bolts on the tow bar and rusted nuts on the exhaust hangers could make it a pig of a job to remove.

Fitting a tow bar to my car took me about 8/9 hours (dark winter months) so, I dread to think how long it would take to remove, fit exhaust hangers to the old car then re-fit with rusted old fittings to the new car - might just be easier to find a car with a tow bar or just buy a new tow bar. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
