2007 TDV8 3.6 engine whine. Help, I'm 300 miles from home!

Travelled from Essex to Peebles yesterday. As we crossed the border I noticed a whine coming from the engine when slowing down. Heard the same noise last time I crossed the border, turned out to be the alternator. Changed by my indie for a genuine LR one.
Probably drove another 100 miles since, whine seems louder. No problem starting or engine running, in fact she seems to be running better than ever.
IID tool shows battery voltage 12.6 at rest, 13.7 at idle and 14.5 to 14.7 at 1500rpm.
Loading the alternator with all lights heated screens etc shows no difference in readings. Full bore with AC makes no difference to the noise or readings.
Power steering all good, fluids correct.
No burning rubber smalls and from what I can see belt is fine.
I'm thinking idler pulley(s) bearing. Has anyone had a pulley fail and take the belt with it?
Will it get me back to Essex is the ultimate question?
Any ideas gratefully received.

Have you got breakdown cover? If so, I'd chance it Smile

If not and you break down half way it could get expensive. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Made it home. Stripped the rad cowling etc and found a very noisy idler (the large one. Replaced - no noise. It would probably have gone quite a few more miles.

Whilst I had some of the water out of the system decided to tackle the heater control valve. Simple job but blooming awkward, lying on top of the engine. Longer arms would have helped. Needed 1/4" drive rachet on the jubilee clips even then could only turn 1/8 at a time. The valve does just pull apart after releasing the bolts but was very tight. The piston bit was tight to start with, wiggling loosened it off. Lubed with rubber grease and put back together. When replacing on the car I ensured the jubilee clips were turned and can now be reached with an extension bar.

Refilled system and bled - easy to say but what a PITA. Anyway no leaks and quiet engine.
