Fuel jet pump 4.2

So I’ve kindly been given a fuel pump for my 4.2 which is great as they my next suspect - i was told this pumpworked but didn’t pump one side of the tank - it’s only a couple of years old and genuine lr so want to give it a go.

It looks like there’s only one motor / pump so I can’t understand how it can pump one side but not the other? Any ideas?

I put 12v on the pump for 10 seconds it sounded right didn’t want to burn it out so they was enough Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:

Dan

If it's the same pump as used on the 2011MY 4.4 then there is only one pump, in the bucket fitted on the drivers side of the tank.

This pump, IIRC, provides fuel to the engine bay and with enough additionaly to a jet unit in the nearside of the tank which fills the drivers side as the tank empties. Thus there should be two parts attached by cables and pipes. The pipes are a supply from the electric pump to an jet (eductor) unit and a return to the "bucket" containing the pump itself.

There should be two level gauges/sensors.

I think that's a fair description of operation, but stand to be corrected. Cheers

It looks like what you say but what I don’t understand is why he said the jet pump side failed 😆 Current stable:

My suggestion would be to check the pipes, joints, and anything else you can think of for leakage and tightness, as well as any possible blockages.

If you are brave you could try dunking it in a couple of small buckets and seeing if the jet pump side works. (that may be "interesting" with petrol Shocked ) Cheers

I would think so as petrol isn't the best of lubricants, thus I would expect the pump to work without to much detrimental effect while you test it. Cheers

I'm not sure how it works or what breaks, but the pump only pumping from one side is a common fault and the solution is generally a new pump assembly - happened to mine years ago on the M40, resulted in a stranded wife!
