So here is what is lurking behind my sills and arch liner.

Took the sills off and wheel arch liner on the 2006 S/C.

Was dreading it, and here is what I saw. (There is some damp as I was cleaning the area).

I am pleased to say the least. Still gave it a coat of stuff for precaution, thought I may as well while I was in there.

Thanks h and anyone who says the arch liner goes in easier than coming out is lying Smile

Rear arch liners are a pig to refit - trick I found helped no end was to leave them in hot sun for a good while which makes them more flexible to wrestle back in.

Good tip on leaving in the sun.

The car lived in Jersey from new until I got it. I was a little worried about rust being an island and sea air, but maybe it spent its life in a garage?

No salted roads in Jersey Thumbs Up

Mine had its first 3 years in Majorca which should have helped a bit, plus the last 4 in Portugal, its not bad underneath but I'm reluctant to start looking under covers and sills Laughing

cold starts

a lot of cold starts and engine not heating up properly is the downside of small island cars

Tut is very true, but unlike my previous big Diesel engines, the petrol seems to get up to temp in about 2 miles!

you want to make sure that the drain slots in the sill to body panel are nice and clear i use a old hacksaw blade and slide up and blow them out with a air line . and remove all gromits along sill and spray some lanoguard in to the cavity this is nice and thin stuff and will not block the drain outlets if water is getting in it has to come out its when outlets are blocked and then you get the rot problems use a thicker protector on the outside i have used epoxy resin all in around my wheel arches and outer sills this will stop any more surface rust returning time consuming but job well done at the end new vehicle purchase
