low range wont engage TD6

I had a separate temp gauge fitted which I have just taken out(suited more for D1/D2,s), plug in to cig for power.
I carefully pulled it through the bulkhead where I had put i through and put everything back together. When I went to put beast back in garage, low range didnt engage.Tried it a few times and it still wont engage.Dont think HDC enganged either as I tried that also.
Is there anything simple that will tell me whether either of themn are working or not.
Also the symbols ARENT working when I have previously selected low or HDC, thats from being rear ended 6 years ago.
When I put it into sport mode thats when the low symbol appears...
Not worried about the symbol, its no low range thats bothering me.
Will put iid tool on it tomorrow when I,m out and about to see what that brings up.

G’day littlecub, i had same problem a few weeks ago, i ended up putting the SC on it and cleared the Low range code and all good again.
Try disconnecting the the negative lead on the battery for a few minutes, that will make the ecu have a re-think…. you’ll have to redo a couple of settings though. Oh and turn steering left an right to cancel ASI (air suspension inactive).

Some times you may even have to pull the motor on transfer case and give it some lube. 😎🇦🇺

Hi Googs, thanks for your response.

Yesterday, got into beast started it up and all symbols in either red or yellow appear.
Plugged in iid and was greeted with a cascade of faults.
After a quick read thru I cleared transfer/engine/ABS of faults.
Redid clear/ read faults 2 more times and eventually got the majority of them cleared.
Set of gently to see what gives and only transfer and heater remained.
After stopping, clearing and driving again slowly(20kph,was on speed hump road) I eventually cleared all faults except
the transfer and heater/cool.
Transfer fault was :LOW-STOP:. AS I knew I was in HIGH I kept going for a 50K drive.
When I got back home, whilst waiting for shed door to open(3.3 high) I put it into low and I heard a very faint clunk.
Hmmmm wonder if it went in, it did. Went forward/back into-out of shed a number of times selecting low-high each time I came back out of shed.
Put iid tool on it just before I turned it off for the night and I get 5223 :noise on actuator signal:
Reading up on that it looks like the potentionmeter could be on the way out.
Will give the unhook battery trick a go to reset the ECU,s to see if that clears it.
Had gearbox redone just after I bought it 6-7 years ago, have done around 130thou since with regular oil changes on box and transfer.
Regularly put it into low to keep it working.
How long does a potentionmeter last for?
Anything else I should look at.
TIA

Hi Googs,no I didnt but heater still works, not sure about fan.

The TC has to be an electrical fault as I never went under the car as the ECU for the TC is behind the battery.

What scan tool do you have?
Can you clear codes?
If you’ve got a scanner is it bi-directional?

Got an iid tool Goog,s, it clears a lot.

Had to update it,as I had a message to do an urgent update from GAP on the phone.
Anyway after the update, plugged it in this morning, went through the faults, cleared them and now have low range back again.
Bow down Bow down Thumbs Up

Dont know exactly what the problem was but glad to see the end of it Very Happy

So when you drive off you are stuck in low range?
I have had faults codes appear before because the battery was below a certain voltage.
now you have the Gap updated you can now clear the soft code Yes?

Hi Googs,
Yes I have cleared all the faults and yes I could/can drive the vehicle because it never was in LOW.
I gather that you have no knowledge of the iid tool of which I have mentioned in previous posts.
If not, go to : gap-diagnostic.com: and have a look at there site.
If you can download the manual that comes with the tool, it is quite extensive and clearly tells you it can/cannot do plus there,s a few extra bits that the team will allow you to do if you ask them nicely(extra programing).
It has helped many people on this site as well as other sites(eg. aulro) so that you dont have to go to the stealers and get ripped off.

All the best.

Thanks littlecub, I will have a look and yes I’m not familiar with them.
I have a Launch 431x pros, I’m sure if they are similar .
