That looks like the common bypass fix for a failed Bluetooth module where the fibre connections are removed from the module and a replacement fibre inserted to allow the rest of the AV system to work.

The black box at the top of the stack is the BT module.....those fibre's should plug in to it.

Rear screen headphone use the transmitter in the headlining, as you say, infrared.

I’m assuming you can’t pair a phone to the car like that? Might be wrong…

It only effects the Bluetooth.

The Nokia unit is notorious for corroding and failing, in turn stopping the whole system working properly because it works on a fibre optic loop. Obviously, Bluetooth won't work.

If you want Bluetooth again, you can buy the much more reliable Ford-designed unit. The part number is 8H22 10F845 AA. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Yep, the orange "wire" in the loop is a fibre link bypassing the Bluetooth module since its a common failure.

So you won't be able to pair your mobile with the car until the Bluetooth module is back in the chain.

Sometimes the module fails because of corrosion, so if you are of a mind, you could take it out and see if it's repairable before replacing it.

I seem to remember that someone on this forum used to offer a repair/upgrade service to the BT unit.

It's about £100 for one but 2nd hand Nokia units are c£70!

The unit is much more reliable though and was what is fitted in the later Range Rovers and Discoveries. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Try searching for a Range Rover Sport module, I found mine last year for £50. It was from a 2012 model.

My old Nokia module was also bypassed when I bought my L322. I took it out and it looked fine until I opened it up and it was green inside it.

If you're not in a rush, keep looking for the newer model on eBay as they do regularly come up for around 50 quid.

Thanks all.

In no rush so will take a look inside my one and if I cant get it working, look for a later one.

I've seen some on eBay - they say 'needs coding' .. surely these are just 'plug and pray' ? Gavin

Yep, Bluetooth units are 100% plug and play and take seconds to swap out.

I always wonder if "Needs Coding" is their way of saying it doesn't work! 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Yes - a nice get out clause.

Do the newer units give any extra functions over the earlier ones - apart from being better designed ? Gavin
