Yep, just my luck, and we hardly suffer from rust in my neck of the woods.. I've removed all the bits and pieces that makes up this little affair, sadly its not just a matter of replacing the cable as the cable glands on either end are too big to fit through the spring and shiny pieces, so clearly supplied as a fully assembled part, including that expensive looking chromed bit..

I'd be thinking that a control cable supplier / maker could replace the broken cable fairly inexpensively. Got to be worth asking the question?

True, thank you very much for the suggestion Happydaze , did not even cross my mind... I'm going to go to JLR and see what these things cost just for kicks, but thankfully have found a control cable manufacturer 15 minutes away that 'hopefully' can do this for me, certainly looking at their website I would guess this is pretty doable..

Chris I am in your debt.. JLR quoted me the equivalent of £50.00 plus 21 working days to get one over the pond since there is nothing locally available.. Control cable manufacturer took one look at it, told me to come back 2.5 hours later to collect new item, £4.00 all in.. Can hardly argue that, was an absolute pleasure, now to fit it all back.. |

Cannot really, the big pretty silvery thing needs to have the cable go through it, so can only be re-used once she snaps, and they are directional, so cannot fit on either side of the tailgate.. |
