There are some threads on this (search) which will have more/better information, but I have the farmer's hitch version and have been happy with it. It is significantly cheaper to retrofit than the deployable one, and avoids the risk of seizure which can affect the deployable ones. I think the farmer's hitch one has a higher nose weight rating if towing off road. The deployable one is cleaner and easier to use, and maybe "cooler". The hook, when removed, can be stowed in the cavity to the right of the loadspace area, in my case tied to a lashing eye to stop it moving about. It is quick and easy to operate, though one has to watch for rusting of the hole the pin goes through, which reduces the size of the hole so that it then needs filing to restore the required circumference. Also, the anti-rattle bolt is prone to rusting, leading to the locknut being unable to move on the thread. I solved this by buying a bag of correct size nuts and bolts from a trade supplier, a cheap solution, especially as LR don't sell the anti-rattle bolt as a separate item. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Hi; James. Looked at your link, thanks. It initially says, no bumper cut, no bumper removal. Then when you download the fitting instructions, it says do both.

Did anyone fit it themselves ?
From reading other threads, it appears that it costs around £250 to fit.
£436 to buy, electrics about £70, total fitted £742.

Does that sound right. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

Yes did mine myself, its a bumper off job, but quite straightforward to do, wiring is plug and play unless you want the tow assist to work then it needs a software upgrade, a good Indy can do this at service time and shouldn’t cost the earth. Thumbs Up

I paid a guy to do mine on the drive, he had the whole rear bumper off. I can't see how you'd fit a towbar to most modern vehicles without taking the bumper off as you completely replace the whole rear cross-section with one that has the towbar receiver in it.

The only cut is to the removable sectional the bottom centre of the bumper. You have to cut out a relatively small area of it, it's right underneath the vehicle, you can't see it from 'above'.

Oh and on electrics, I need to get mine tow enabled. Mostly because on my old D4 I could simply flick off the reversing sensor beep when manoeuvring the caravan. On the FFRR, you can't mute it, only make it slightly less loud and it's really annoying. So I need to get my indy to do that at some point, and I'd recommend it for that reason alone. FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

I went for the vehicle specific so no wiring needed, all plugs straight in, you can see the plugs if you look up just behind the bumper. You can get cheaper ones that involve wiring in but there’s no point to be honest. Cost me £475 all in, (two years ago).

Right got the tow bar sorted, but the supplier seems really confused re the plug and play electrics, led enabled. 13 pin. Can someone kindly point me in the right direction for the correct wiring please. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

It basically depends on your requirements, IE do you want 7 or 13 pin, has your trailer got LED lights?
There is a vehicle specific one for each. PF Jones has them all in stock and are mail order, price ranges from £46 to £88 depending on the one you want, don’t be tempted into a wire yourself with a bypass box, not worth the hassle for the money saved.
