Fitting deployable sidesteps.

Hi guys I've just bagged a bargain of the century (well i think i have) a full set of deployable sidesteps which included everything needed to fit. Is there anybody on here that would care to fit them for me? Maybe someone around the Midlands or Bristol area or M5 corridor? I could possibly do them myself but i really don't have the time as they would be just sat in the shed for months on end. Obviously i would pay for someone to do it. Any recommendations would be rather welcoming.

I've downloaded the instructions from topix and seems a rather straight forward job. I will be off next weekend so I'm going to tackle the job myself, is there anything i should worry about and also I've read somewhere else on here that it's just plug and play basically. I've got the gap iid tool to enable it in the ccf. And would i be wrong in thinking that some of the wiring looms are already fitted on a 2008 or have i misread something?

It's a few years since I fitted mine but I remember it being very straight forward - I'm sure someone on here has done a write up on it. The only problems I remember were needing some Taps to clean the threads on the holes that LR had thoughtfully left open to the atmosphere underneath the car and the cable that runs up to the overhead console is only just long enough, it needs to be very carefully routed from the ECU, there is no spare length.
It was plug and play on mine.

Yes cass somebody else mentioned that too, another tool set I'll need to buy, that's 1 thing I've not got. Been told that some can't be used using a drill because of the air tank. Thanks Stan I'll have me look.

Well guys today i made a start on fitting the steps today, well if you can call it that. I had a lie in this morning for the first time in months, so today went off to Halfords to get me some kit which was sold out with what i needed. Went to another place and they too also sold out. So thought i would bite the bullet and try to see if i could get the bolts to screw in to the chassis instead of re-tapping them. A nice result though i say, bit fiddly but got the holes all ready to bolt the steps in just by screwing bolts in so that should be easy when it comes to fit them. Sprayed some WD-40 in the holes just to make sure.

Now this is where it gets interesting. When i purchased the steps, the guy said he was selling them cheap as the drivers side was automatic and the passenger side was manual. A bit strange i thought, so today i give the steps a good clean and oiled the moving parts. Then went through all the wiring looms to check everything was there and well, everything is there and another main wiring loom for the L405 complete with switch. On checking the main wiring loom it turns out it's the correct one for mine as it has the button that goes in the front roof panel. The dude who sold them never fitted them to his L322 and sat in his garage for 3 years, so i do believe he's got his wires crossed (no pun intended) and thought the L405 main loom was for the manual passenger side step. I really do think I've robbed the guy for what i paid for them.

So now i have a L405 main wiring loom and switch that i have no use for, so if anyone is interested i will put it up for sale in the for sale section. It also comes with the instruction booklet too.

I’ve just fitted these to mine.

I believe you can still get the looms and the ECU from Land Rover so if you’ve not got the right wiring it might be easy enough to sort.

Thanks David, i do believe i have all the right wiring and looms, i checked them against the instructions. So I'll soon find out tomorrow when I'm going to fit all together. If so, I'm going to be a very happy man.
How easy did you find it to do? Did you fit the actual steps by yourself? I only ask as I'm on my own tomorrow and they are quite heavy so gonna have to try and fit them by myself.

Must admit Douglas, bit of a relief that I've got the right parts and no manual passenger side lol.

There's a lot of dismantling on the interior, but I had no problems really.

My wiring seemed a bit strange as the loom that goes to the passengers side step was the short one and the drivers side the long one. I believe they were labelled wrong from the factory as the ECU sits in the drivers side so I swapped those around, other then that it was straight forward enough to follow the instructions. There's a handy DIY guide in the Wiki here that Greg wrote which is handy for reference too.

When I had my air receiver off I'd run a tap down the bolt holes on the car so they were nice and clean. With the air receiver in place that will be very awkward, probably impossible to do.

They are heavy to mount but not too bad as you start the bolts and then slot the steps onto them which makes life much easier.

I need some serious help please guys. I fitted all the looms today, plugged them all in and............. Nothing! Checked, checked and double checked all the wiring, all in place except for a wire and plug that goes to the roof, these 2 here.

According to the instructions the loose wire should replace number 5 wire in the main plug

And the other wire should go into plug in the steps loom. Now i don't have a number 5 wire only 4 so I'm believing i may have the wrong loom for the 2008. This one is for 2010 on, is there a way around it for them to work or will i need to get a pre 2010 loom?

So now I've unplugged the steps loom and plugged back in the original ones into the ecu under passenger side, now my seats and steering wheel adjusters don't work. Tried with the iid tool but when i want to load up the ccf it keeps saying error then goes back to home screen. Any idea please guys?

Oof, that’s not good! Crying or Very sad

I’ve seen similar IIDTool issues that seemed to go away later. It felt like an ECU had an issue and when the car went fully to sleep it reset.

With that in mind maybe disconnect the battery, and try the “short the connectors” trick to reset everything?

Sorry, can’t offer much more help there… hope you suss it out Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Thanks ffrr-lover I'll give it a go shortly. What year is your overfinch? The thing is if i can't get the damn things to work or can't get hold of the correct loom, then i will just put them up for sale again.
I'm hoping I've not frazzled the bcm.
