The least letters and numbers are the more valuable other than those that have clear name connection.

Dateless! Three numbers and three letters will usually trump anything date related. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom |

I have a few, probably pretty basic compared to most on here but I like them.

Dateless are usually the best ones. Like mine which is F4 BSK which i bought for £800 4 years ago. I only bought it because i intended to be naughty and made it F4B SK with SK being my initials. I'm still surprised I've not been tugged by plod yet about it. |

I've got a few MPX plates, most 3x3. Lyonhead has outlined a lot of the financials ... but there are further subtleties. Anything with an "i" in it will be much cheaper. They're Northern Irish and used to be targets on the mainland during the troubles - obviously no longer the case. 3x3 either way round are about the best value dateless. 2x4/4x2 next, and getting ever more expensive the fewer letters and numbers there are with an obvious premium on No 1. DVLA a good source if you can think of something acceptable made from a regular plate. I'd guess they've all gone by now but H1 with initials were only £500 back in the day. I found S44 +initials for a friend's Smart For Four a couple of years back for £250. And got M100 + initials for an M100 Lotus for £250 20 years ago. All direct from DVLA. Try to enjoy it - its supposed to be fun! Mike - MPx

The DVLA have a great search tool that lets you play around with different combinations until you find one that suits.
