CD Changer Problem

Today I had the CD Changer out to run the new cable for Intravee and the DAB unit. However since putting it all back together (Intravee won't turn up for a few days) the CD changer is stuck on the following screen:

07052011476 by d86cfv, on Flickr

However there are CD's in there, or even if I take them all out the message stays the same.

To attempt to resolve I have:
Pulled the CD Changer Fuse
Disconnected the Battery
Traced all the connections to ensure I've not left anything unplugged

Is the changer goosed? I may have unplugged it initially with the key in the ignition so possibly pulled its power while active.
When I insert the cartridge it checks every slot and then loads CD1 but just doesn't play or show the other CD's.

What say you collective knowledge?

Dan

Hi Dan - You haven't left any intravee wiring in have you. I have the Intravee set up so can't use the CD anymore and my screen comes up with that first of all for a second or two and then recognises intravee and switches to iPod on the screen?

Maybe worth checking you have not plugged any of the intravee studd in "ready to go" for when stuff turns up? Ash

I've not got the intravee yet, I was just running the AI-Net cable to the rear of the car. I've left the changer unscrewed so I can pull it out easily enough when it does all come. But I've not changed the configuration of any of the wires.

I'm concerned that this may be part of a "bigger picture" and when my Intravee turns up that's not going to work now either from whatever I've done.

Dan,
I've had a similar observation when my CD changer jammed... Would cycle through but say "no discs" etc etc. This means that the head unit gets the message that there is no output from the CD so goes back to radio or tape... I can't remember the name of the iPod link i fitted but I had to get the CD changer working. Not that difficult, especially as you've undone the securing bolts, pull it out, take the little screws out, then cover off. You can then see where the cartridge moves to collect discs from the mag, i used a little bit of dry silicon lube, gentle bit of teasing while powered up and voila! Now I'm just careful to keep an eye on the track number of the CD while I listen to my iPod so it doesn't get to the end and go for another disc.

Hey Dan.

Odd that it seems to check for the CD's- wonder if when it was unplugged whilst powered if the carriage wasn't "parked"?

If the cd loads but won't play often on laptops it's that the laser isn't right at the centre and so can't read the disc lead in/header.

Sadly though to check this would be a case apart job I guess.

Thanks guys.

What's odd is that the system doesn't revert to Radio, it just sits there on CD1-01. Like it thinks its playing.

I don't understand how it can go through the check CD process loading them all and spinning them all for its check and then go back to saying no disk 2-5 and then just sits on CD1-01. Even if I take the mag out it says CD1-01.

I believe the 3 pin is the data cable, and the 6 pin is the signal cable. If I unplug the data cable the CD disappears from the menu so I only get radio & tape. If I plug it back in it goes through its loading sequence, comes up on the display but still only has CD1-01.

Even though as of Tuesday I wont be using the changer, this has really bugged me. To the extent I'm searching fleabay for a new unit.

Sorted.

Bizarrely it was the roof switch for the Rear Seat Ent' I don't know what made me press it, but when I did the CD started whirring away and Britney started once again (don't get me wrong, I hate her, but her latest album is very good Embarassed - Anyway, I digress)

I've never noticed it before, but then I don't use the RSE other than in the first week of ownership!

Bring on DAB Radio on Tuesday!

Ha. Remember the all too common P38 lock motor problem? When you opened the front door with the key, you still couldn't get into the rear hatch on a LHD car - because the RH front door lock has a microswitch that activates power to the rear hatch button. For you guys not a problem, for us LHD people, tho...

Try explaining that to someone: well my power door locks are on the blink and I have to unlock the passenger door to open the rear Embarassed

At least that hasn't changed. These cars still make great conversation topics.
