My new 2007 4.2 SC bought unseen

Hi all

Following my search and some helpful advice from members I will be taking delivery of my first Land Rover product next week.

Mrs Seriously has previously had a new FL2 HSE in 2007 and got a new RR Evoque P300e AB just before Christmas.

My previous cars have been a real mix with the highlights as follows;

New Saab 900 Turbo SE 3dr 1996. Company car and first car with proper climate control. Loved it.

BMW e36 328i coupe used at 103k miles. Amazing car.

Audi S4 avant B5. Olive green. Amazing till it lunched gearbox and turbos Big Cry

Lexus GS450h 2007 - still one of the best cars I have ever had.

Porsche 997.1 C2S manual. Definitely the best car I have had.

VW Touareg V6 TDI Altitude. From 2009 to 2018. The Beast. Loved that car but why I need a petrol. DPF killed it.

So to now.

Have found a 2007 4.2SC in (I think) Buckingham blue, clear glass, ivory interior, burr walnut and £141,000 miles.

Buying sight unseen after as much due diligence is possible remotely. It’s in Stockport.

Agreed at £5,300. Body looks straight, no visible rust and very clean MOT.

Being collected next week either Wednesday or Thursday.

Grey wheels will have to go back to silver.

Good detail and polish needed but not too bad.

I’ll do a full walkaround a nd photos and list of faults when it arrives.

A few pre delivery questions for the forum;

1. Can anyone recommend a good indie in the Colchester area.

2. Will get a diagnostic tool. Was going to get a Gap IID but as we have multiple JLR products want to cover all bases. My daughter has a 2014 FL2 Metropolis and in the FL2 forum it seems that SDD is preferred due to lack of functionality of Gap IID for that model. Should I just go for SDD? And any recommendations for getting it?

3. I am planning to get all transmission fluids changed straight away. What else should I do immediately irrespective of condition?

Many thanks

Douglas

I changed all fluids including transmission, engine, brake, coolant and supercharger over a few months.

I didn't do jobs for which I had receipts such as brake pads and discs.

I had a receipt that showed that the belts had been done, but on inspection I noticed that the supercharger belt had shed one of its ribs, so both were replaced.

Throughout this time I kept the car on the road at all times so that I could enjoy it, which is why I bought it after all Laughing

Another question

Easy way to see if battery is any good other than looking at how new it looks?

If not should I just get a new one - better safe than sorry

Thanks

Douglas

Also!!!

In the picture above there are chrome rings round the fog lights which look a bit incongruous to me.

Is that the standard look?

Nice looking car. Buckingham Blue when polished well is lovely. Thumbs Up

Once back on silver wheels with the chrome fog light bezels removed that’ll look great.

I’d leave the battery alone for now, first sign of them failing is odd electrical faults and transmission fault seems to be the first error to pop up on the dash.

Start with all the oils, engine, gearbox, transfer box, diffs, supercharger and then drive it to find out what else bugs you Smile

Thanks David

I will also need to get a spare key made up. Where”s best for this?

Any advice on diagnostic tool either IID or SDD. I need to cover this car, a 2014 FL2 and a 2021 Evoque P300e

Thanks

Douglas

And for the fog light bezels what is OEM. Is it grey or can I go body coloured?

I’m going to get body coloured door handle covers too

Fog light bezel should be body coloured.

Spare key as far as I’m aware is dealer only but I might be wrong.

Diagnostics - we’ve got an IID tool. It worked on my folks 2007 Freelander 2 i6 with exception to the sat nav. The 2021 Evoque will be an issue though I think even with SDD as by that age they’ve moved on to Pathfinder I believe. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Thanks

I’m not overly fussed for the Evoque other than checking codes and unlocking features like Lazy Locking

I’ll probably go IID then

Car coming Wednesday afternoon Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thanks

Douglas

Douglas one other minor (unless they fail) thing to check is the lower tailgate straps they rust very badly

I got my spare key from site sponsor Duckworths, tell them you are a member for your discount. I wasted a lot of time talking to people who said they could do it but failed to deliver.
