Upgrading from 2007MY to 2011MY - Seat differences / Exhaust

Dear all,

I'm currently considering my options for my beloved 2007MY L322, (Jaguar 4.4 V8 petrol).

It's getting old and needing a fair bit of work now, so I'm wondering about upgrading.

I may go and take a look at this one today, which certainly looks very nice and should give me a few more years of L322 happiness:

https://www.seraphcars.com/current-stock/2...biography/

I have a couple of questions which I wonder if someone can please help me with.

Firstly, the seats on my 2007 MY Vogue are supremely comfortable. Within the link to this new car, they look similar here on the 2011MY and have the added benefit of cooling, but are they the same seat as the 2007MY and will they be as comfortable?

Secondly, I'm not a huge fan of the rear exhaust tailpipes, can these be made less obvious / taken back? - I don't really want to see them.

Also, I can get 26-27 mpg out of my 4.4 Petrol Vogue at a steady 75mph, will I see similar on a run with the 5.0?

Finally, would you agree, that the leather colour is Parchment (as I see it), not Ivory?

Any comments that can be shared asap would be greatly appreciated, as I need to make a decision soon.

Many thanks in advance.

If you are only looking at the petrol, you won’t have any choice but to have those seats. I have the same in mine. It’s the Vogue that has the more chunkier looking seats but you will need diesel for that trim. I had 2003 car and the seats were more comfortable, but then they had more adjustment as they did not contain the side airbags… they did after…. I wouldn’t call them uncomfortable though. I agree the interior is ivory. The cooled seats don’t use an element, they use a piezo cell, so the heating up won’t be as quick as on your current car.

I’m surprised it’s not got the 1200w HD stereo fitted….

Can’t help with the exhaust queries….

Looks a tidy motor….

A good question, I ran a 2007 & 2011 TDV8 together for quite a while, assuming the seats are the same on the petrols I (and my wife definately found the seats on the 07 model more comfortable. I couldn't say what the difference was and you only noticed when doing a decent trip but there was certainly a subtle difference. Both cars had similar mileages so it wasn't down to wear.
I also felt that the 07 steering wheel was "better", it just felt as if it had a bit more padding/better leather?
The differences were very small and I doubt I'd have noticed had I not been running both at the same time - I certainly wouldn't call the 11 model uncomfortable

How come that doesn't have the 8 speed ZF gearbox? Christian.

Thanks mjdronfield and cass for your replies and some good points made by both (the little things like a difference in steering wheel do definitely matter).

I've just been reading about timing chain issues on the 5.0 which is a bit of a worry. My current 2007MY 4.4 petrol doesn't have this issue, but then it's done 110k miles - So, not sure whether to stick with what I know or move to something with 90k less miles.

Will have to give it more thought........

I think it must, does it say otherwise?

Thought that was standard fit with no option to change?

By the way, I found the L322 Project interesting Christian Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I never knew that Stan...... I have the 6 speed in my current 2007MY 4.4 petrol and don't mind it, although isn't the 8 speed supposed to be the better box?

The 8 speed is a really good box, it's used on a really wide variety of cars, including the Rolls Royce Phantom & Cullinan and the Aston Martin DBS

It's rated for cars up to 1000nm torque! Christian.

Yes, you will need a diesel to get the top of the line gearbox…..🤣 it has more torque than the SC so I’m guessing the 6 speed wasn’t up to the job.

Will have electronically locking rear diff though…. On the Supercharged….

keep looking

The Vogue Centre chances 5.0s at high 20's at prices like £27 28 and 299995 but these levels are not true market price

£37k just not on the planet even with it's 19k miles Cheers, Greg

Petrol cars have a wider torque band (spread over a greater rev range) than diesel engined vehicles. This means that it is unnecessary to have a greater number of gears. My MY06 doesn't have the e locking diff. Can't say that I've missed out on having it though! Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)
Galaxy 2001-2007
Mondeo Estate 1997-2001
Sierra Estate 1993-1997
Uno Turbo 1987 -1993
Fiesta 1984 - 1987
Fiat 127 1982 - 1984

Yes, the 5.0 was 6 speed previous generation ZF gearbox. The chassis was never adapted to take the 5.0 with ZF8 combination. Nothing wrong with the 6 but it will eat through fuel much quicker than an L405 5.0 with a ZF8.

Only the 4.4 TDV8 has the later generation 8 speed box on the L322. This is most likely because of the torque output and that it was a brand new engine, with a view to fit to the upcoming (at the time) L405, after the engine design was dropped from the Ford F150. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

They are not the same and they are not as comfortable. Having gone from an 2008MY Vogue to a 2012MY Westminster, I can tell you that the cooled seats have less padding in them. The seats are the only thing I'd want to change back from the later car. Don't get me wrong, the cooled seats are not uncomfortable, they are just not as deep and plush!

However, everything else is better!!!! The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile
