My sat Nav packed up and my new iPad is Wi-Fi only so no gps. So I’ve just been using Waze on my phone, spoken instructions come into car system as phone calls. As well as real time it also made me realise that for most of my journeys I don’t actually need a sat Nav at all Geoff

I have moved home to an area where I am new to and have used satnav more this past year than any previous, mainly to find shops , jab venues, local 4x4 indi….etc…etc.
I was mainly using Apple maps on my iPad, but now over the moon with Apple CarPlay on the larger ,brighter Intellidash screenI have fitted.

Sorry if I mislead you.
I have scoured the booklet and can’t even find where I got 0000 from.

I assume it is just to lock the screen ??, but not really needed because it goes off when you unplug your phone .

the 4 zeros are for the BT connection Mike...the 8888 password code is for a config screen which doesn't do anything different to the normal settings screen. ... - .- -.

For those who have the intellidash, could you please help with the following:
- how big is the whole unit if placed directly over the existing screen? Does if interfere with the buttons and dial?
I’m wondering if a simple bracket could be fashioned that would allow the intellidash screen to cover the stock screen for most use, but could be rotated up along the top edge to access the stock screen when needed. Even better would be a 2-position bracket that allowed the unit to cover the screen or sit above it whilst using the same dash fixing point? Andy

Apple CarPlay is so much better than the original Nav system, so this relatively cheap option is a good easy way to update the car.
My advice would be to buy one and then work on a way to mount it that best suits you.

Here is a photo showing the Intellidash unit sat directly in front of the original fitted screen.
It fits well, still giving access to all the knobs/ switches.
I am going to stick it to the original screen using a couple of double sided Velcro patches just to see how it goes.
Mike.

I have now made a very simple “L” shaped bracket, Velcroed to the back of it that pushes in to the gap under the dashtop and can’t be seen, but the whole thing can be removed in seconds if I want to see original screen.

The screen is so much brighter and crystal clear compared to the original, even in bright sunlight. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

I just bought one of these second screen things from China (original SatNav packed up) it only cost me less than a hundred quid and it works fine with my iPhone (using Waze) however mounting the screen in my 405 is actually presenting the biggest challenge as the unit is slightly thicker than a "normal" tablet so a claw type mount doesn't work. I got a magnetic one but the bit that sticks to the screen keeps coming unstuck anyone got any ideas?

As I only use the Nav it doesn't interfere with the normal workings of the car , heated seats, massage, radio etc. The phone works OK but how it handles calls is a bit of a mystery and when I disconnected the screen (it actually came unstuck) the phone kept on with the Waze directions by ringing me up. Geoff

Well I stuck with it, bought 3 different types of mount - but none produced the effect I wanted so I just modified the redundant Brodit mount I used for my iPhone (which now charges wirelessly) - perfect, although I do need some shorter wires. Very Happy Very Happy I just realised the thread is for old cars not L405s (or 460s come to that) Shocked Shocked

Obviously it takes a few weeks to arrive but it seems to work OK. Instruction manual leaves a bit to be desired but of course thats what you get when you buy from China. Very Happy.

I connected Wireless to phone, and used power and mic leads (not sure I need to do this). But it navigated me from North Yorkshire to Lancashire using Waze while I listened to the original car radio, whilst connected the directions come from the unit. Geoff
