Has anybody on here replaced their own cylinder head??? | |
Ok bear with me on this one...
I am seriously considering a JE Engineering LPG conversion for our FFRR (AJ41 engine).
Now the slight sticking point I have is the addition cost of the replacement cylinder heads that need to be installed with hardened valve seats, almost £1100 for the pair (exchange part price) plus just over £1000 for fitting
I have been looking through TOPIx at what is involved and what I would need to complete the job. Aside from having to have the AC system drained and then subsequently refilled professionally I think it may be a goer.
Essentially you need to strip the entire front of the car to access the timing chains, remove the crankshafts/camshafts, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads. Then in reverse rebuild but with the replacement heads.
I have priced up the specialist tools from SPX that are required for the crankshafts/camshafts and timing chains and I reckon I could save about £500 - £600 on the labour costs. A shame really as the tools are going to cost over £400!
What I am after really is any advice from someone that has done this before, mainly for a sanity check and if there is someone out there do you have the specialist tools that I could perhaps borrow/rent/buy? 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior
