Usual suspects are the oil cooler return pipe O rings and the oil cooler gaskets. Check your coolant expansion tank for oil contamination. It's very unusual for the oil cooler gaskets not to fail on these engines at some point it seems..... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Oil cooler gasket or O rings is where I'd put my money on Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I had spots of oil on my driveway and was lucky enough to catch it quickly before there was oil in the coolant (2012 TDV8). As has been said, I'd put money on it being the oil cooler gaskets and/or the o-rings on the oil feed pipe to the cooler.

It’s an inevitable issue with these engines. If you are lucky the previous owner has had it done. It’s fiddly but easily within the scope of a DIY job which will save you a lot as you will be paying for time mainly as long as the cooler is not cracked. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Flushing the coolant after will take some time as well. |

First quote £650 if the problem is down to gaskets only, providing cooler is not warped, otherwise £1200 for a new LR cooler fitted, both prices plus VAT! Independent garage. Don't think I will be going there.

If the independent is changing the oil and coolant at that price, that's certainly where I'd be going (other than doing it myself). I wouldn't be fitting a cheap and nasty non-genuine oil cooler. They may tell you that the cooler is warped, but I doubt it. Besides, will they have proper equipment to confirm this anyway? The lower priced quote includes an OEM cooler which I think is OK, any comments welcome. RR owner |
