Are callipers serviceable items?

Rear callipers are in different stages of piston crud / corrosion.
LHS is mostly clear. Can get under the rubber boot with brake cleaner and small brush and clean most of crud out
RHS is crudded up. Piston will only retract about half way into calliper. Was unable to retract piston far enough to fit new set of pads, so one new pad and one partly worn installed for now.

Are these callipers serviceable so that pistons can be removed and cleaned / polished, body also cleaned, new boot / seal installed and piston re-installed, and bled
Or are they chuck away?

Maybe there are service kits out there with new pistons and seals?

They are serviceable but I got Bearmach ones for less than £40 each, no exchange, so it's not worth the trouble of rebuilding them.

I serviced my rear callipers for about a tenner a side. It's just a seal kit, piston and new bleed nipple.

The originals are TRW and they are about £200 each to buy new. I personally would rather have a reconditioned TRW calliper than a cheap and cheerful replacement.

Thank you Caesium
Just a thought on removing the corroded piston
Did you try applying the brake with the calliper off to see if the hydraulics would force the piston out? (Done in some kind of receptacle to catch any escaping fluids …)

Love those mini clamps you used on the brake lines.
Makes my idea to use small circlips quite Neanderthal

I did think about using the pedal to push the piston out, however experience dictates this as a bad idea.

One is that I cannot see the calliper from the driver's seat whilst operating the pedal and two is that it was so tight that the subsequent release would probably have blown brake fluid everywhere and that stuff will take paint down to bare metal.

I wasn't prepared to take that risk. I knew I was replacing the pistons anyway so I pulled them out with G Clamps as you saw. Christian.

Caesium

I ordered those parts myself today
I will fit on weekend

I noted the piston is not an “official” fit for the L322
Although it is sold by a few 4x4 specialists as being OK for L322s

Did you have any issue on fitting or since ?

There were two pistons from memory, one of them was stainless. I saw no point in a stainless one.

I got all the parts from Rimmer Bros as they were reasonable and when I spoke to them the guy was really helpful.

No problem with fitting at all, went back together really wasily, just used a smear of fresh brake fluid to lube the seals up. Dust boot popped in nice and easy. Christian.
