Jacking and supporting the rear end

Took a rear wheel off yesterday to get a closer look at the condition of the calliper and bolts for a DIY disk and pad change (all good) but had difficulty with the best way to jack and place axle stands. Using the jacking point with my sprinter jack was quick and easy but unlike the front there was no obvious place for the axle stands as the lower A arm ( the official place) was too angled down to place it safely. Would jacking under the air spring on the A arm so the suspension doesn’t extend be better as an axle stand will then go on the jacking point. Likely will do both rears at the same time as have 2 jacks. The only issue with jacking the moving suspension part is if the suspension decides to adjust itself. Advice from those who have done it welcome. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

That’s the problem with the workshop advice - the A arm attachment point is not usable as a support point when the suspension is fully extended 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

As I do have a ramp I do not use a jack that often, but car can sure be lifted under the airspring under the A-arm. I do this all the time when car is in the ramp when I lower it down on the axle stand, and when in need I support it onder the jacking point. Although I don't know if you can jack up that high with just a jack (surely you won't get the Sprinter bottle jack under it), so you'll need a (low) hydraulic floor jack with appropiate lift capacity (>1500 kg) and lifting height.
For car not adjusting itself: just leaf one of the doors open (1 cm is enough).

I always jack the rear under the air spring albeit with a trolley jack. Never had a problem. I also place an axle stand under the rearmost jacking point with a lump of timber between the jacking point and the head of the axle stand. Thumbs Up

Made up a couple of spigots for the top of my axle stands to match those on the sprinter jack so I can transfer the jacking point adapters I made to the axle stands to support the rear on the jacking points when I lift via the A arms under the air spring.
Also decided against jacking both rear wheels at the same time it will be very laterally unstable but with 3 wheels on the ground it can't shift sideways 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
