Considering that all 4.4 tdv8’s L322 are now ten or more years old and that some have covered Mega mileages, they are generally considered to be very robust and reliable providing they are regularly serviced with the correct specifications of oil and filters being used.

Only potentially catastrophic one is the oil cooler leaking really… then if unchecked oil goes in coolant… coolant in oil… needs not to be left…

The two I've seen in the last week are this one at 130k which isn't mega miles really and I saw the 2013 l405 with 100k on another auction site but can't link that.

Mine had 160,000 on the clock, apart from the turbo drain mod which I had done I was 100% confident with the engine, it was a great performer, good on fuel etc. Lots of stuff on an L322 to worry about, the 4.4 TDV8 isnt on the list of recurring nightmares. BMW i3 Electric Car

Had mine over 4 years and apart from inlet manifold cracking and oil cooler going it has been faultless. Have great faith in a great engine. |

I have to say, can’t fault the 4.4 tdv8 so far, 2.5 years into ownership & had the oil cooler & starter motor done, both typical failures. Need the rose bushes doing next then the pulleys & idlers, again, just routine maintenance really.

I had all the oil leaks...cooler, turbo and oil pump plug. Bingo!

mine went past 200,000 last week. -full service history, bought at 196k. drives superb. I have no regrets. supreme power, and comfort. light years away from my old petrol 4.4. and I was lucky that the four shock absorbers had all been recently changed, and brakes. the shocks are expensive. I have a minor water leak, and engine has some oil blacking (leak) evident. sounds fantastic, goes well, and I get regular 30+ mpg, and can even push 40mpg on the motorways. |

40mpg means a full tank range of nearly 800miles which is literally incredible. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |
