40mpg means a full tank range of nearly 800miles which is literally incredible.

The book rating is 30mpg how are you getting it that high unless you are just motorwaying at 60 all day? 😂 I’m guessing it’d be a lot less on short school runs or shop runs?

as said, yes, 40+ on a motorway... I can even get the dash to say 45mpg, if i really feather foot it, at around 60mph... and maintain that...but a typical motorway journey.. I did two days long journeys recently at 847 miles, with a little town driving each end. (two days etc) and got an average speed of 47mph, and 40 mpg. I even filmed the trip computer with my phone at the end of the journey, so I could remember the numbers. (I don't think I can upload a video here??) ... around 30mpg is attainable. in typical driving... I really don't lead foot the thing at all. -I used to drive a 2002 v8 petrol, and all journeys had mileage under 20mpg... so this really is a revelation. its basically down to low revs cruising. the 8 speed gearbox, and high torque engine, mean you are around 1200 rpm's at 70mph. you can still overtake without clogging it too. its a different type of driving. I also have paddle shifts, so I can flick down one gear, and very gently ease past another car too. the car has tons of grunt, and never sounds like its being thrashed. if you do thrash it, it goes like stink!

Never heard anyone getting 40mpg average on one of these . Have you calculated the real mpg from fuel used to fill up vs miles? 1200rpm at 70 is very low . I’m on larger than stock tyres and get 1400rpm at a true 70mph ( GPS not speedo) are you running very oversized tyres?
What is the DTE miles after filling up as I think this also takes data from the GPS nav to estimate an accurate range which in your case would mean you could have done most of those 847 miles on a single fill which is incredible. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Same as mjd here. About 27 overall.
Maybe 32 when sitting at 70 on the motorway.

Not sure how much difference there is between 3.6 and 4.4

I rely on the distance to empty from full, and it always reads 510- 515 miles to next time I refill, but I brim it again when it gets down below 100 miles to empty.

I've just had to do some regular 140 mile round trips and the reading was 31.2 mpg. Don't really know how accurate the car works it out though.
Locally about 26 mpg.
I zero my trip from my fuel station which is down hill all the way to my house 2 miles away. It reads 54 mpg and I turn the engine off straight away just to see the figures on my dashboard. Rolling with laughter

When I was presenting Drone training courses in Bournemouth my journey from Gainsborough to Bournemouth (227 miles each way) I regularly got above 40 mpg (actual) the trip computer showing 44ish. That was with 60mph on the motorways and good anticipation so brakes not used. Now driving electric it's in a completely different league equivalent of 240 mpg from a cost point of view. BMW i3 Electric Car

Massive increase in mpg at 60 compared to 70. Mine was doing 45-55mpg ( indicated) on the 60mph section of the M1 this afternoon.
Love the shape of the L322 but aerodynamic it is not. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
