unlocking instrument cluster

found this on another forum and was wondering if anyone has or is willing to try this...

Getting access to the instrument cluster test mode.

Unlocking the instrument cluster:

1) Put your key in, put to position 2 (straight up and down, but just before kicking the starter on. Don't worry about starting the truck, you can start it once you're in the test mode.)

2) Latch the driver's seat belt to get rid of the "Fasten seat belt" message.

3) Press the right button on the cluster and hold for a few seconds. "TEST-NR. 01" will show.

4) Press the left button on the instrument panel once and the vehicle ID will show up, the last 7 digits of your VIN.

5) Add up the last 5 numbers to get your unlock code. For example, AB12345 would be 15. (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5)

6) Press the right button until "TEST-NR. 19" shows up.

7) Press the left button once, "LOCK : ON" will show.

8 ) Press the left button again until "LOCK : xx" shows, where "xx" is the number you calculated in step 5.

9) Press the right button once. Now the cluster is unlocked and all modes can be accessed.

Here is a list of all the tests and what they do.

1) Vehicle info, what we used to get your Unlock Code.
2) Instrument Test. Very cool, try this with your engine off and enjoy.
3) Computer data
4) Current fuel consumption in liters per 100km and in liters per hour.
5) Average fuel consumption in liters per 100km and range.
6) Current fuel levels in left tank, right tank, and total.
7) Engine temperature, engine RPM, and outside temp.
8 ) Current speed in km/hr.
9) Current Battery Voltage.
10) Country.
11) Units
12) Average speed used to set ETA
13) Sound Test
14) Diag info
15) Binary port outputs
16) Oil temperature. Does not work in our trucks.
17) Vehicle specific data. Nothing meaningful.
18 ) More diag
19) Lock/Unlock Cluster
20) MPG Correction Factor
21) Reset all codes, date & time.

Search! It's at the top.

I use it alot. As our temp indictor is crap I've used it to check the engine temp. Nice bit of reassurance it's not over heating.

Ah right, this is the same information you get on the 2006 onwards Touchscreen via the 753 code on the diagnostic panel. I'm assuming your method also works on the 2006 models anyway. Steve
