I am having to replace my steering angle sensor. Have found a DIY on Landyzone, but am unsure if I unplug the steering a colounm just a bit, or if the whole thing has to come out to get the sensor out?

Looking at the date of my post on there (yes tis me) its been a while since I did this on the 53 plate I had but think they need a 13mm socket plus extension and U/J to get on them.

You were corrrect! Got the old one out and a new one in.

Now I have to get it all back together

And just to add, you will need to recalibrate it or it will throw up abs and suspension faults.

Yeah I know. But now I can at least connect diagnosis again. The faulty SAS was blocking me from reading codes. Now I can again, but icarpro is useless, so it wont calibrate my SAS even though it says it can. So will try lynx

Correct, lock to lock only re sets it, it needs calibration first.

This has been a strange one.

Calibrated the SAS. Nothing changed. Found out the right ABS sensor was broken (wire break). Had to bore out sensor. Very careful and got it out.

Car flat on battery for some reason. Booster and started the car.

At first it said abs system temporary deactivation. Can bus fault on air suspension. Then it said the Steering angle sensor ecu was faulty.

Tried clearing a couple of times and at last it had no faults. But the three amigos in the dash still.

Tried driving the car around the parking garage at work. Then all the lights in the dash went out. Everything seemed fine. But its firing the abs brakes all the time and the car is hard to move. If I plug in the diagnotisc the three amigos are back and now it drives fine.

Still saying steering angle sensor ecu fault I think.

I have no idea now...

Only thing I can suggest is check for faults in all other modules, did have sas fault pop up in lcm on the 53 plate.

Read out speeds on the sensors while driving slowly, and the replaced sensor show 8 km/h while the three others show 4 km/h, so I think the ABS module believes the front right wheel is spinning and therefor runs the dsc.

Duff new sensor then, do remember reading about somebody having same thing with a replacment sensor.

Will cough up for an original one this time.
