Noticed after starting this morning that engine warning light has stayed on. Car runs well and no warning messages displayed.

Any suggestions for possible fixes. I live on an Island with no dealer and no diagnostic tools locally, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am in a similar situation (living on an "island" in Africa) and invested in a Blackbox Solutions Faultmate Extreme (on a single vehicle license) and have a healthy? distrust of most modern day car mechanics. The Faultmate allows me to read any fault codes, clear them and do a lot more. BBS also sells "cheaper" options, not sure they have one that reads engine fault codes. Anyway, it could be minor/simple thing that won't do any harm but it could also be a major issue. No way of telling without a fault code reader or systematically checking all relevant components, cleaning connectors on sensors/injectors etc.

I have the same engine checklight going on and in my case the engine (2006 Supercharged) seems to run a tad rich. All sensors seem to be working fine and if I hadn't know, I would be changing out sensors right now. The cost of such an exercise in itself may be less than the cost of a diagnostic tool like mine but with more potential things going wrong over time (and a future overland trip planned) I thought the purchase was justified. In the long run it will save me (you ?) money with mechanics replacing parts that don't need replacing or damage caused by a fault that is not addressed properly/timely.

I do have quite a bit of experience with tinkering with cars and bikes (not a rich man that could send his cars/bikes to the shop + a dad that taught me a lot about cars ) and that experience will help interpreting some of the more "illusive" faults. If you have no experience with cars/bikes or you don't have a mate/mechanic around to help then the use of a diagnostic tool reduces but could still be justified.

Could easily be a Lambda sensor on the CATs....

If you don't want to pull your trousers down for the BlackBox Solution then you can just buy an OBDB reader off of eBay. I use a USB one that plugs into the laptop, it cost me £25 and has been used countless times and must have saved me a small fortune in trips to the stealer to get the light reset and to read the code to enable me to diagnose at home. This will only read engine trouble codes though, nothing relating to the rest of the car.

The alternative to BBS is the Rover All Comms software. Updates are free, and it's not locked to a single VIN like BBS.

Looks like a diagnostics tool could be a good investment. I do a fair bit of my own mechanical repairs, so hopefully will save an expensive trip to dealer.

Damn, didn't find the RSW when I started looking for a diagnostic tool. It sounds lot cheaper than the BBS with similar functionality. Am pretty happy with the Faultmate though, especially once I got it to program the new (expensive) key fob !! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

it'll be no good for you as you have a 2006 full fat...the RAC only goes up to vins 5A999999.. ... - .- -.
