You can instantly pair your phone but you can only makes calls and not stream music through it. You will need to add something for that side of it.

Another 2 viewings today.

Didn't bother doing test drives. There are some utter snotters out there and not just cheap advertised one's either. They made the 1st one I looked at seem ok.

A suggestion. Look at later 4.4tdv8 or supercharged cars circa 2011 on. I bought a reasonable 4.4 tdv8 last year for what you were asked for a 3.6 motor, which have more faults. The bigger v8 is a nice smooth engine, and lots of torque, most have adaptive damping. Your first viewing would have cost you at least a full suspension overhaul and a setof tyres. If there is uneven tyre wear, then the suspension needs work. A full set of parts is £800 onwards plus fitting.

Cheers for your reply jagracer. I get what you're saying and would quite happily jump to the right one at the right price, although I don't see many about at the moment. I know I will have to spend some money on one once it's bought as well.

I'm sure something will come up soon Cool The ML420 has now sold although I've spotted a GL420 local'ish. I've not had a the full on FFRR experience and would like to do that soon.

Edited to add that I've viewed both private and trade sellers. Petrol would be my first choice but could easily make use of a derv so no problems with either one.

Bought one today.

I was browsing the local sites and a 55 plate 4.2 with reasonable miles came up for sale.

Only one downside. I put the sunroof on tilt and now it won't close. I had a quick google search and have tried the holding the button for 20 seconds. I could hear a click then nothing else happened.

Is there another way to close it or a manual way to do it?

Nice looking car, pity about the hole in the roof, it must think it's a Disco TD5! Seriously, is there a winding handle in the pocket by the roof switch, they used to put one there. Worth opening and closing again. Mine catches on the blanking panel when right back. I have to hook it back out.

I'm interested why you sold your M420; sorry if I missed it, especially as you're also eyeing up a GL420. I went from an 06' GL420 to a 12 reg TDv8 and I've got to be honest it wasn't night and day for me and I still prefer my GL in some ways over my L322. Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

Cheers Jagracer.

Having chased all of the ways to do it online, it didn't work. I called up a local specialist and popped over and he plugged it in and closed it. That'll do me for now as it's too cold and windy to be messing about outside.

Chrali. The wires have been crossed somewhere Smile I owned and sold an ML500. I was also looking at both ML and GL 420's. I've not owned either so far but they look a lot of car.

Nath911t My bad, I assumed your ML was a diesel Laughing Yeah a GL is a beast, from lifting the massive heavy bonnet, to the gargantuan load space. Mine had the 21 inch AMG rims and was still a total boat. The 4litre v8 diesel engine is lovely and responds well to enthusiastic driving; corners permitting Laughing The engine bay which is sooo much roomier than the L322s. The dash is prehistoric though, but it didn't bother me any. I loved my GL. Giving the L322 a chance though Very Happy Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

Chrali, now worries mate. In all my confusion, excitement and frustrations I can get a little !mixeduomytyping" at times Laughing

I almost looked at a GL320 that was local to me. It was an '06 done 110k miles with fsh in silver for £7.5k and from a local garage. Been silver it slightly put me off as my drive way is full of silver cars at the moment and I fancied a change of colour. Then a GL420. Again in silver that's done 125k. By the time I had "really" thought about it both had gone and the next priced ones were £10k+ Both had airmatic which isn't a cheap fix as the OEM parts aren't cheap to replace. in fact I was finding over the past 4 years how much more expensive Merc parts were getting. Not saying LR will be much cheaper.

I also fancied a change having sat in the ML for 4 years or so. The dash, even with Command can be boring to look at. The RR has a much better dash to look at. Your dash even more so been the newer model to mine. More comfortable seating with the armrest been a God send for me and a much lighter colour interior been cream/beige or whatever this one's is Cool

All bar one RR I looked at were from dealers. The one I bought was a private sale and to be honest I much prefer petrol over derv for the local short journeys with the wife using it for work, when or if she can be bothered to go back. So petrol kind of won me over. Nearly all the dealer cars needed money throwing at them imminently.

Plus, although the book hasn't been stamped recently it's been looked after by LC Autocare, a local to me LR RR specialist.

It's had new brakes, gearbox service, filters, etc. It needs a few things sorting out like the reverse camera and parking sensors, along with bonnet struts and possibly get rid of the 22" wheels for some 20's at some stage. Oh and the alternator gets a bit squeaky on the first start in the morning but this could be were it was parked up before I bought it.

Going from a GL to a L322? I can see where you're coming from but sometimes a change is good and if you did move back to a GL at some stage, they'll be plenty of things you'll miss in the 322.

Sounds like you need to stop thinking about Mercs, as you clearly want a fatty 😁 Encourage alternative fuels, use all the petrol!

Another update Laughing

Sold the 4.2SC last week after nearly a year of ownership. Apart from some things (well quite a few things thinking about it) not working there was a wet dog/ Censored smell that I just couldn't get clear out having tried everything, apart from petrol and matches. Despite rotating numerous car air fresheners, etc it was back within days, if not hours. My wife couldn't stomach it any more. Nor could I.

The things that weren't working were on me as I should have tested everything when I bought it - would have sorted them if I could have eliminated the stench. We both drove it quite a few miles and absolutely loved it. What a lovely place to be in, lovely to drive and great road and parking presence. The fuel bills could be eye watering when it was near to the £2 per litre but despite that it was driven quite often and more than expected.

Would we have another? Unsure a derv would suit our life styles stop/starts and local trips but another petrol SC probably would. Although this time I'd be all over it making sure "everything" worked. I have found myself looking at adverts on some websites for non smelly version where everything does work without moon miles.

Overall it was a great experience and one I'm glad we chose to take part in Cool
