United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black
Diagnostics..... Gap vs Snap on

I did try a search but I couldn't see anything, has anyone used both the Gap tool and snap on scanners and found one better than the other?

I have recently purchased a 2011 TDV8 and the snap on modis ultra I have has done everything I have wanted so far but its software is a few years out of date, I am weighing up between updating the snap on or buying a Gap tool if the gap tool offers many more features that I will use I don't mind buying one I just don't want to waste my money.

Also does anyone offer a discount code on the gap tools?

Thanks, Will.

Whilst i dont have a snap on tool, I do have an iidtool and used it across various land rovers.

Software out of date needs context. If it’s just that it looks old, but still displays the correct data you need, then it’s to me it doesn’t matter. Even the IIDTool user interface I think looks absolute cr@p … but it displays what you need. Heck, I would be happy with a terminal prompt to be honest!

As I understand it, the modus came about 2016, and yours is a 2011 car, so it’s not going to be like there is many new features that they would add in an update. At the time of release, they would likely have implemented most features from the outset.. A bit different if you bought a 2017MY and were looking to update the 2016 modus to work with its new stuff.

I’d just leave it as is, and look at change when you need the change. V8 or else ...

The Modus (Snap-On) is more focussed on diagnostics, the IID has more facilities to 'fiddle' with the vehicle's configuration.
Which is more suited to your needs entirely depends on where you think you'll be using it most. Modus has some guided diagnostics and is somewhat aware of the range of values - and relative values of other sensors to give reasonably accurate guided diagnostics. I've never used IID but from what I've seen on here, the readings are just raw data with no good/bad analysis.
