Pirelli pncs truth or scam?

My last post's were about tyres, and thought I would share this other interesting point or is it a scam? that came out of those threads.

Slow puncture 22" Pirelli with 6mm tread left, the nail was in a good place to be repaired (confirmed by tyre mechanic).

When I came to collect, I was told they had cut away the PNCS foam, drilled the hole and twice tried to glue the repair patch.
so good so far.

Twice they said this glue did not work and tyre leaked, they suspect its reacting with the glue from the foam left behind as it bonded with the underside of the tyre?

They gave up and said I needed a new tyre as it would be dangerous to continue with this repair.
(I was thinking afterwards, surely they could rough up the rubber a little if that was true, to remove old bonded glue? a bit like you do with inner tubes with sand paper etc)

I saw the tyre, saw the drilled hole and where the foam had been cut away from underside of the tyre.

With hindsight, I am thinking fool, should have taken the old tyre for 2nd opinion but what do I know, certainly not a rubber expert Rolling with laughter and then time was pressing so just left him to order a new tyre.

Has anyone heard of this issue before with Pirelli PNCS tyres?

I think next tyre stop in the future will be with the likes of ATS etc 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Ditto on the fishy. They are more difficult to repair due to the foam inserts, but Will clean up with a bit of good old elbow grease and brake cleaner or similar. Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

We’ve had one repaired without any issues, damn thing picked up a screw 150 miles old.

We were on holiday and the only place we could find was a place that specialised in repairing tractor tyres etc they had it repaired and balanced in no time for £8 couldn’t believe it!

Rubber blocks on their jacks etc was a nice outfit, they even hid the balance weights behind the spokes. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Any adhesive used to stick the foam insets will by definition not impregnate the rubber of the tyre so it's hard to see how this could be an issue. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
