Smith and Allan Oils

With 73000 on the clock now and no evidence that either my diffs or transfer box oils have been changed (based on the "full Landrover dealer service history) Ive decided to change my own.

Im a short distance driver these days with most trips being less than 12 miles round trip so im fully expecting to see a yellow DPF warning at some point. Nothing so far but the rate of decline of miles to next service indicates I have the problem of accelerated engine oil dilution.

So which oil did I go for? Im a great believer in following a specification and not a brand name (not for all I appreciate). However the economics are quite compelling. Smith Allan supply

20 Litres of engine oil for £56.62 incl vat (£28 for an oil change)
5 Litres Transfer box oil (2 changes pliu some) £35.89 (£17.94 per change)
5 Litres Diff oil (2 changes front & rear and some) £29.66 (£14.80 per change)

Arrived within 24 hours from Fedex for a £10.25 delivery charge.

I will used the MD for the annual engine oil change to keep the service history complete but its quite compelling value to at least consider this alternative.

I will say I have no relationship with Smith and Allan they seem just good value quality products.

I had a 20L delivered this morning from Smith allen for the 6 month oil change just to be safe as after 6000 miles in 6 months i have a dilution number of 6 when reading with the IID TOOL so it would be well over the advised change dulution number of 7 time it goes in for the service in JULY and mine has the shell 5w30 AF-L for the yearly dealer service, the transfer box oil is changed on the 80000/60 month service .

I thought i would have a quick look at my online service history as you mentioned it as my transfer box oil and Dynamic Response fluid reservoir were changed as part of the 60 month service at LR Colchester as i checked after the service to make shore it had been done, they have not put anying at all down for the 60 month online service history not even an oil change, i changed to a local LR non MD garage for the 6th year service last year and they have listed every single thing they did inc the brake fluid change.

My problem was not dissimilar. The online MD record showed only renewal of Oil, Oil filter and pollen filter at 60 months service. I queried it with the servicing dealer in Bedford who could find no other records to substantiate whether the other service items were carried out. The selling dealer in Hereford didnt want to know and said because a MD had done the service they would not have skipped these items....Really! Whistle

So I will do them myself.

I now need to find someone to change the gearbox oil and filter in East Devon (dont really fancy doing that on my back on the driveway)

Just ordered new Filter along with filler and drain plugs from Duckworths. 2015 Range Rover L405 SDV8 AB Corris grey

I've been using Smith and Allan for years. It's great stuff and great value Thumbs Up

You could have also bought some Smith and Allan Cold Climate PSF to replace your Dynamic Response fluid.

Concerning your gearbox fluid change, it's easy enough to do yourself. Just do multiple drops and refills until it looks nice and clean. See my thread here...

Hi,

with S&A its worth checking on the bay of fleas for their items as I found they were better value via the bay than direct after adding postage Shocked

not everything they sell is listed but worth looking, crazy world Rolling Eyes

Good point indeed. I've found that also if buying one item. If buying a few different products though, it usually works out better to buy from their website in my experience. Definitely worth checking both Thumbs Up Kev
