L322 2005 4.4 m62 Coolant trouble?

Hi guys!

This weekend i fitted a new termostat and waterpump to my L322 2005 4.4 m62.
I have tried my best to bleed the system, but its not very easy...

No matter what, my car will not get hot.
I have not driven it very hard, but at normal driving, the coolant needle wont get to the middle...
And that means it only blows cold air, which is not very pleasent in Norway during the winter.. Smile

Could anybody please try to give me some tips here?

FYI i did fill coolant through the expantion tank... i think that was dumb, and i should have filled the hoses and radiator first...

Have you taken the small top hose off the radiator? I can’t recall if it’s on the left or right on the M62, but run it like that and hopefully it’ll bleed. Obviously put it back on afterwards!!

Thanks! Thats a good tip! I have not done that yet.

But there are some bugs here..
When i came out this morning, the top radiator hose was completely flat..

Good news: I am now sure that the webasto is closer to start... i dont think it got any water before.

I will try tb10's tip, and get back to those who are interested Smile

My hose did the same mate. Try a new expansion tank cap but I also had to get a new hose because the old one was soft.

Expantion tank cap and bleed screw brand new.
Will buy a new hose asap.

I have now parked it in a heated garage, hoping to see that it at least holds fluid since i did the changes on saturday.

Which cap did you get ?? 140 or 200 ?? Seems there is a debate about the correct 1, I'm having issues with mine it had a140 o it when I got it seems it should be 200 for the m62 4.4 petrol.

Sounds like you have an air lock iv just bought a new negative pressure kit to use on mine will give it a go this week.

Pretty sure airlock is the answer.

I got the car up to temperature, with the needle in the middle.
Then i went out to bleed, just to be sure.

I think that was pretty stupid because now its not getting warm again, so i might let air in .. again…

Now its topped up, after bleeding.

So came in to the garage this morning, and the upper radiator hose going in to the waterpump was completely flat.
That would be partnumber: PCH001110

The level had dropped a bit, but not by much and given that the expantiontank was pretty full i see that as normal.
The filler cap and bleed screw are new. Same with termostat, waterpump and gaskets for those parts.

I will now buy the upper radiator hose, and cross my fingers.. i need heat because its freezing here Smile

I think you still have air in the system even with the soft hose. Have you tried bleeding it with the front end as high as you can get it like on some ramps?

The front of the car has been parked on an incline.
I have now order, a new radiator hose, a new breather hose from radiator to expantiontank and yet another coolant cap.
These parts will hopefully be here tomorrow.

I will drain coolant, and start all over again with new hoses and cap.

Drain everything today.
Changed the upper radiatorhose, with the part that goes to the alternator and gearbox cooler.
New cap for expantion tank. New breather hose for expantion tank.

I am sure i am bleeding correctly.
So it makes me think what i messed up when changing the water pump and the termostat.
Because the car will not Get properly hot.
And its not blowing any hot air.

Maybe the termostat thats Brand new from…. Britpart is Censored ?

Bloody car is going to the workshop on monday.
Probably gonna cost a fortune. But i am out of ideas, and in Norway its not possible to drive without heat now

Its air locked, you need the kit I suggested to vacum fill it
