I've had the same issue this week and still investigating.
Error codes p0105
Manifold absolute pressure high
And p040d
Exhaust gas recirculation temp high
Any help would be greatly received

The gremlin for me was two temperature sensors. The one I replaced in the pictures earlier in the thread and one further down the exhaust near the DPF.

I see you have some additional errors so it might be worth trying a forced a chemical cleaning foam and forced re-gen of the DPF?

Well following the advice on the Egr temp sensor 2 i started and found that this in the most awkward place possible .
i started with testing the Sensor with a meter and found the one at fault was the one i couldn't get to on the N/S Exhaust manifold. the tool i ordered opened up causing it to slip on the sensor .
i snapped off the tall part of the sensor so i could get a 13mm socket on a long extension bar 1/2 inch. .
after 2 days all fine and code free .

yes tool will open up if used for removal so you did the right thing by cutting off end to get socket on for removal. Pre soaking would have probably saved some effort. Well done !

Geoff, does your exhaust stink when running? My car smelt like an old ice cream van whilst the engine was running in a confined space… When I reversed mine in the garage at night it was very obvious! This was caused by the failure of the N.S. exhaust manifold probe, in the cool position. This resulted in my car overfueling, effectively running on choke and filling theDPF with unburnt diesel fuel!!!

My 2013 L405 was like this when I test drove it at purchase point… I believe the revised part was fitted from 2015MY 👍

Can’t comment on funny smells, not noticed any. Car runs great well over 30mpg unless of course restricted performance lights up Geoff

The actual message from my car this afternoon is

The previous one was from someone who offered an opinion - that I should ignore it, which I may well do as the car is running fine until "Restricted Performance" pops up which is easily reset. Apparently it is a pretty common message and so long as I don't drive it in "Restricted Performance" (which I don't) no harm will be done. Geoff

This is dated 2018 and I am sure I could find earlier example of the code.
It’s still there today , 4 years later and will still be there in another 4 years, God willing I live that long

I cleared the top fault in 2021, but PO 40 will be there forever.

Before I moved home I used to regularly have long chats with the owner of my local independent, who had the identical 4.4 tdV8 , other than colour. to mine.

I can quote his advice, when I asked him to change the sensor..


I wouldn’t want to take your money while the car is running so well.
The last one I changed, the manifold cracked getting it out and it was a very expensive repair.

He told me that it was best to leave it alone.

Thanks BB, that is the advice I have been given (not from the Indie at £300 a pop it's easy money for them) so I think I'll just run with it. Now I just need to get the DPF upgrade for my IIDTool to ensure regions are taking place normally.

Sorry to raise this given the amout of pain it caused

on the L405 could you advise me where the connector plugs into the harness so i can do some checks before replacing the sensor.

and yes mine does smell like an old ice cream van!
