Ha! Sure BarmyBrummie, head on over and I’ll give it a go!

Incompetent mechanic at your service Thumbs Up

I finally looked at and resolved the whooshing sound, and as I suspected a hose had popped off the turbo bypass. I’d not tightened the jubilee clip at all… which is frustrating given how careful I was with checking and double checking everything!!!

Oh, and coolant! I’ve only used around 7 litres, but expected to need (and purchased) 17 litres. I doubt it’s an air lock as the needle is where it needs to be, and she gets hot quickly and stays there too. I suspect despite following the RAVE instructions there was a lot of water that didn’t leave the coolant system so will be purchasing a coolant tester and some concentrate to get her to the 50/50 mix. For now with mildly freezing temperatures she’ll be fine.

What next? Well I’d love to get the bodywork up to the same impressive level of shine as yours, but still need to wait for that. Best to wait for the warmer sunny days anyway…

My next jobs are…
    Oil cooler change
Clean throttle body and plenum of crap build up
    Full service
Diff and transfer boxes fluid changes
    Gearbox megaflush
    Brake service and spray

However I do have an MOT due so that list may be preceded with an item or two Laughing

Oh, and I get the air on rebased tomorrow… just in time for winter Rolling with laughter Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Actually, on the point of brake callipers…

Apart from some idiot knackering the retaining pins and needing them forcefully removed… I am looking to refurb and repaint the callipers.

But what colour do I go for? They were yellow… do I stick with yellow or go another bright colour? They should look ok behind those alloys as they are fairly well hidden…
Or go a subtle black or grey?

Or totally different… like bronze? Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Laughing I bet that monkey does a better job than some JLR dealer technicians. I think you should paint the calipers red me thinks, they look so much better.
But still, your overfinch is coming along nicely.

I changed the oil of my run around fiesta today… well, I say oil as it was more like treacle!!! It makes me wonder if the monkey who changed it last actually changed it…
At least doing it yourself you know it’s been done!

Red is up there for callipers, as is yellow, for what comes to mind when refurbing them. Whenever I think “overfinch” yellow callipers comes to mind, so it’s a close call between them.

However I am quite liking the idea of bronze. I’d stick with greys for the wheels and overfinch badges, but black everywhere else. So no matching blink anywhere else.

I'm very much liking those bronze ones, like them very much indeed. Don't think they will look good on mine but still very nice. I may go down the red route when I can get time to get them done but I'm in no rush

Cheers BarmyBrummie. I had a bit more of a look around an am liking the idea more. I found a Khan monstrosity which, apart from the (imo) ott body kit had them (and lots of other bronze bits here and there) and while I didn’t like how it all looked, those wheels with the bronze worked well. I’ll see if I can find it and will post a picture.

I’m letting the pads wear down a bit first then will take care of the refurb and paint.

I’m not sure if I’ll use a company to do this for me, or tackle it myself. I’m happy to give most things a go… but the brakes are kinda important Shocked

I think red is definitely best for your car. The red would work complement the lovely colour of your car. You could even get a matching colour rather than the typical bright red?

I think it depends on the rest of the car. To me red callipers are overdone, especially so on diesel range rovers and Audi q series. It is why I refurbished mine in just a simple nice black, and painted the wheel hubs black as well. Anyone who knows these cars know they have big brembo callipers anyway. And heck when at the traffic lights I can often see people look inside those 22" wheels and big brakes.

But hey it is your choice, pick which ever colour you like.

Those overfinch Calipers on the bcs website would look the business in red, but everyone’s taste is different. On that note, are the Calipers that say overfinch the same as the standard Calipers?

Bl4ckdog, I don't understand why you say 'especially so on diesel Range Rovers'?

The red callipers was a thing for performance vehicles with Brembo. Diesels aren’t those performance vehicles. You see them more nowadays on the diesels. And it’s not just Range Rover. Mercedes and Audi are just a “guilty” with their AMG line and S Line versions on low powered vehicles. It’s become a joke and actually represents the opposite.

Naturally anyone can do whatever they want and pleases them. Just sharing my opinion.

Some people must be so upset when a diesel powered car won at Le Mans, after all LeMans is the premium “performance car” race.

Ok. I never related the colour of the calipers to the performance of the vehicle. Were yours originally red then?

LoL LeMans. Congrats you’ve found an outlier. But as per gauss that will be eliminated 🤣

No @Kevinp mine weren’t either, nor will be. It’s a Range Rover, albeit not a diesel one but still a Range Rover.

Today I treated my FF to an oil change and filter change. I also swapped the air filter for the smaller turbo, but left the other filter for another day as the screws on the air box looked worse for wear. I’ll order those then will finish that off.

Also have a fuel filter which I may tackle this weekend.

Whilst there, I popped out the MAP sensor to find it gunned up so gave it a clean. I have a spare, but thought I’d give cleaning a go (if I break it, then have an option to use the new one!), besides when I give the throttle body and plenum a clean I’ll probably put the new one in then…

I’ll be going for a drive later… let’s see if there’s a change in how she drives! Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8
