It's beautiful. Built like a tank, and I am pretty sure I secured the last one in the EU! As it's now out of stock in most places.

This one uses the ETA 2824-2 movement which went into production in 1982. Very appropriate, as it's my birth year.

Thank you to @JayGee who led me to Marathon, albeit via the MWC recommendation Thumbs Up

Well done! The 2824 is a proven workhorse of a movement and an excellent time keeper.
Wear it well and in best of health!

For an extra degree of nerdishness, look closely and you'll see that the minute markers at 19 and 48 are highlighted in orange.

Some great present’s Thumbs Up

Santa upped my Apple Watch game this year with a nice leather strap, it’s completely opposite to the Rolex and I love them both!

Looks good on you - wear it in good health!

I’m also a Breitling aficionado (though I own a few other brands too) and I recommend another couple of watchmakers to look at for the second watch - Christopher Ward and Bremont.

I’m a big fan of Grand Seiko. They are much easier to get hold of in UK in past few years. I’ve got the Snowflake but they make some stunning pieces which a lot of watch aficionados rate as higher quality finish and movement than Rolex - putting them on par with Patek and Lange (although their movements are in a class of their own).

GS are indeed up there with the best. The problem they face is, the public perception that Seiko also do relatively inexpensive watches, so why would you spend £000’s on the same brand, even though they aren’t. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Very true Alan Thumbs Up

Sat on the fence for years but have just put down a deposit on a GS Rikka, some of their Presage models are nice but I remember when you could have a nice Seiko Auto for £200, so not sure how they can command the prices they currently do.

Prices of watches across the board have gone crazy, even Micro brands like Crepas are asking £3k for some of their offerings.

Grand Seiko really appeals to me. Something very attractive about the way it quietly gets on with it and is exquisitely crafted. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

GS has some absolutely amazing offerings. Quality is on par or better than equally priced brands. Seiko on the other hand has been consistently producing affordable and durable time pieces while the newest models are some of the best values out there. Shared GS and Seiko designs are much welcomed Thumbs Up

I bought a Seiko in my late teens & every watch up to the last one has been seiko. Not out if brand loyalty, but because they were the watch that was the best for me at that time. On my 40th or 50th my wife wanted offered me a £5000 Rolex , I turned it frown and bought a £360.00 seiko instead.

Since then my eyes have dimmed and I can’t see the day or date quite so easily and spent two years looking for a new watch & found the Mido brand , Impressive history, beautiful watch , glass back… superb ( each to his own)

Must haves. Non scratch glass, day. Date, water proof to 50m /100m , splash proof is not enough, and big enough to see the wretched thing. Seiko is a better time keeper, never adjusted.

Love it. It also comes with a NATO strap in case the rubber one proves uncomfortable.

It's heavy but comfortable, very readable at night and one of my favourite watches.

I was lucky in that I was able to point SWMBO in the right direction with a 20% discount code.

No discount but here's the link; https://elliotbrownwatches.com/collections...ofessional
