The AT3's would seem to be the obvious choice for your particular circumstances. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

according to the generaltire.co.uk web site they claim that the 'new' at3 is much improved so the 2018 tyre test a couple of pages back might not be accurate for the newer tyre.

Thanks for the update. On Mytyres they list 2 AT3's at different prices and the more expensive one has a C wet braking rating and the cheaper one is D rated. The more expensive one is not much cheaper than the Pirelli's though. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

I think you will have to ask your insurer. AFAIK if you fit winter tyres you need to tell them and also if you fit non standard sizes but not sure about the speed rating. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Always stick to the speed rating or go higher. Never go lower as it will invalidate your insurance. Unless regurlarly going offroad there really is no reason to get AT patterned tyres, it is a compromise in all areas but one. |

Handbook page 224 says 109 speed rating and H for the winter spec or Y for the all season option

I think '109' is the load rating not speed. Different tyre sizes and types ( i.e winter ) have different speed ratings V, H and Y. Y is 186mph which even with a tail wind downhill I think would be optimistic. When I need new tyres I'll check with my insurer as I think W rated ( 168mph) will be more than adequate. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

I doesn’t matter what speed you drive or don’t drive. It’s just a vehicle approval. Same thing like one really should not be driving on winter wheels all year around or on AT tyres. It’s just common sense. |
