Hi again...

Current issue on my 120K 2013 4.4 L405 are that I have been suffering with losing a bit of coolant overtime with no obvious leaks anywhere.
Driving home 60 miles yesterday I noticed that I couldn't get any warm air to blow into the car, then low coolant warning came on, then gauge went fully off the scale and engine overheating warning appeared and scared the life out of me.
Pulled over immediately onto M25 hard shoulder and then waited 3 3/4 hours for recovery (thanks for nothing RAC subcontractor).
This morning, topped up water, stays in reservoir, warmed up aok, gauge sitting in the middle, but no warm air in the car.

Does anybody have any suggestions please as im not sure whats going on here?

could it be the coolant got to such a low point that when you re-filled it caused an air lock..

there should be a method of bleeding the system in the WM.. ... - .- -.

I did wonder the same and have tried to top up and bleed with the bleed screw, but I guess I must have some monster air lock as the temp gauge reads normal but the water in the expansion tank is only luke warm so I presume somehow not circulating?
Also air vents only blowing cold.
Any help much appreciated...

Don't know if you have the 4 zone climate but, if you do, it might be useful to know that the rear and front operate pretty independently so no heat in the cabin will be more than just a stuck heater valve or blocked heater matrix (the rear has a second heater unit located in the boot). In my case it turned out to be a stuck fuel burning heater valve. Either way, my other suggestion would be to drain then vacuum fill the coolant to eliminate the air lock possibility - the workshop manual wiki shows how.

Yes I have the 4 zone climate, but having continued with my bleeding efforts (!) which involved a rag around local streets then repeatedly getting air out of the bleed screw, I managed to get more water in, build up pressure and have found a tiny pin hole leak in the hose that goes from the expansion bottle to I think the thermostat. I presume this is the root of my problem. Hopefully...
Obviously I need to replace this hose, but LL reckon I need all three pipes which have been modified, rather than just the one apparently at a cost of £353.43 which seems a bit harsh for what is about 2 feet of rubber hose!

Does this all sound right?

The bit about being charged an exorbitant amount of money for a couple of hoses DOES sound about right. Does this include labour charges to fit them?
Afraid I can't comment on whether it will fix the problem though. Sorry.

My tip for expensive parts is to have a quick google for the part number. My faulty valve (mentioned above) was on indefinite backorder with Landrover but the genuine part was immediately available on e-bay at a fraction of the cost.

When I replaced my alternator, (on my L322) I lost almost all the coolant and had a nightmare of a job to get the resultant airlock out.

The first symptom was the lack of heating in the car and the temp gauge steadfastly stayed in the blue.

It was only after several attempts to get the airlock out and normal service was resumed. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

When I replaced my coolant recently I was super impressed at the vacuum filling process. Very quick and easy with zero air locks. I got a cheap vacuum refill kit from Amazon and used a Pela oil hand pump to get the vacuum (because I don't have a compressor). Took approx 5 mins from start to finish.

Thats a good idea John, think I will order one, as you're quite right, getting all the air out seems to be a real pig.

On another note, the one hose I needed (from the expansion bottle to to the thermostat) is obsolete and has now been updated apparently with THREE modified hoses that have just arrived from main dealer. Looks like a total different approach plumbing wise rather than one easy replacement, im wondering if ive got the correct parts now...
