Morning all.

I have found a little water in my spare wheel well. In the title I said its unusual because it doesn't seem to fit with the usual symptoms, which I have read extensively on here.

Its the only place there is water! I have dry carpets, dry D pillars and seat belts, dry side panels, dry cubby holes where all the fuses and hi fi stuff is hidden on both sides. There is literally no water or dampness anywhere else and no condensation, even after its been left for a week.

I do have a knackered rear wash wipe system, that leaks when the button is pressed, but I knew that and haven't pressed the button for a long long time (plus that leaks water down the inside of the rear window, onto the boot carpet).

Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same symptoms,

Turned out to be a new tailgate seal was required despite looking good, however when I removed it it became obvious it had failed.

I agree, possible tail gate seal. Water will track along the rear panel & fill the spare wheel well.

Try wedging paper towels into the rear cross member corners & I'm pretty sure they will get wet.

It was the same for me. The water is getting in at the top of the boot. The water is getting in the U section of the rubber seal that fits over the metal and works its way around to the sides. If you pull the seal off at the top corner you will see a gap were the metal joins in the corner. This allows the flowing water to go inside the pillar and work its way down the inside getting into the boot without getting the carpet wet, or anywhere near the electrics in the corner. I didn't get a new seal, I just put a bit of silicon sealent inside the rubber U section to seal it to the metal when I pushed it back on and this seems to have solved it. Believe me, I had tried everything before this, a really was at an end of all the things I could think it could be.

I did the repair like you said and today has been the first day of rain for a week or 2.

Been and checked and its bone dry in there

Glad to here it worked. I still check mine on a regular basis and so far so good. This forum is full of good information from people who have been there and done that.
