So finally purchased my first FFRR from this forum last week. Toms Epsom green L322 td6.

Initial thoughts are we love it, and whilst it’s no garage queen it’s perfect for us, it drove from Glasgow with no issues the 285miles back with no issues. Average 29.1mpg

So plans are as follow;

1. Full service inc. gearbox and diffs. Also brake fluid change as I can’t find a record of it being done.
2. Change brake pads as they were the only advisory. Are Ferrodo or Green Stuff recommended? Or another brand?
3. Peel blue tint film off the windows. One question here, will peeling it off damage the rear screen heating elements?
4. Find a body shop for the rusty arches, and open Pandora’s box by getting the silk covers an rear arch liners removed to see what’s lurking.
5.Leather repair to the drivers seat (see attached)

In addition we’ve 2 noises I can’t identify and hoped you might be able to identify:

1. A squeak that increases with speed , sounds like it’s something rotating, so perhaps a bearing or something on the drive shaft??
2. Wind noise in the drivers side above 35mph. It sounds like the window is open but no air ingress and the windows and doors are definitely shut.

I have that wind noise and I think it’s tyres as it varies with speed and surfaces.
What state are the tyres? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

The Squeak may be the water pump. The front spindle is notorious for the bearings going. Easy to check. Justgrab the front spindle and see if it moves around. Easy and cheap to change.

Fair point on the tyres.

ISTR seeing a comment or two about the plastic scuttle at the bottom fo the windscreen causing a noise if it is loose , deformed or a fixing is missing. This allows it to raise alittle causing a wind noise. Cheers

Heres a tip on how to peel off the blue tint from the rear screen. Pull it from one corner down and use a hair dryer or heat gun on a very low setting when you get to the heating elements, this will soften up the adhesive and pull the tint film slowly along as you are heating it up. However, that might seem easier than done, because depending on how long it's been on there, the chances are the film will just keep snapping every inch of so. Once all removed, use tar and glue remover to get rid of the sticky residue and you should end up with a nice clean and clear window. Hope this helps.

Tyres are all the same Pirelli Scorpions (not verdes) and all fitted in the past 12months, will check the tyre pressures to see if there’s any difference.

Hairdryer treatment, I’ll contact Alex Ferguson if it doesn’t work, but will give that a go on Tuesday…..when the wife is out at work😂

Started raining so sellotape covered it over for the moment!!!!

Assuming it’s just a push fit part? Ordered the CY000010 part.

That's what I mentiioned in my post earlier.

I think the part is what you want but there msut be a part to fix it into which may need replacing. You'll have to search for that too. Cheers

Hi Richard, apologies I misunderstood! I’ve ordered the push fit part, if it doesn’t click in I’ll try and workout the missing fitment. Is there a workshop manual that is recommended with the blow out diagrams?

I had the same rear left window fault on an X5 which is a similar Bmw part and it required a new switch .
Switch is easy to remove and unplug to avoid mishaps while waiting for a new part .

Wind noise is probably a missing foam block, there should be two either side when bonnet lifted near scuttle/ windscreen.
One on bonnet one on wing. They were fitted to stop wind noise
