Oh and.. here we are with costs at the moment.. as an FYI.

Car - 2000
Transport - 500
Gap IID - 0 (Free from a friend)
Wheels - 120
Westfalia Swan neck tow bar - 109
Aerosus O/S Front air bag - 136
A few quid on brake line + fittings

Thankfully, the body work isn't expensive as most of it is time.. Will need to buy paint.

Tbh mate. That don't look the worst I've ever seen. If your handy with a welder then I'd fix it up yourself. Either way your still quids in at present so think I'd be inclined too get it sorted. Mediocre 4.2s are generally selling around the £5k market. Surface rust ain't that much of a problem as long as you get too it early enough.

I've got some mud flap brackets you can have if you want them

I agree. Doesn’t seem bad at all. Have some fun with it. It’s always nice to restore something to full working order.

I suppose it isn't awful.. I've been looking around at other posts and images of other peoples rust. Mine is middling.. It will seem a lot less awful once I cut out and square it all up. I plan on tidying up all the rust. it's not cost intensive, just time, really. And it's a super rewarding process in my opinion so all good.

Let's just say I have a welder and have done a few bits on my Clio 172 Cup project.. if you are curious, you can see it here.. https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/thread...627/page-6

That's very kind of you on the mud flap bracket mounts. Do you have a for sale link to the classifieds? I'm still not 100% sure on the running boards as they aren't in great shape. The N/S is completely rotten. I need to get them off and see what is what?

Yea guys, it's good fun and very rewarding bringing it back to a reasonable standard.

I suppose I will be quids on it alright.. I don't know where I am going with this to be honest. It's basically my 4th car and when I give up this unit i'm renting out, I won't really have space for my cars.. I would like to keep it though. Perhaps as an Irish car that I can use when I return home every now and then.

Quick positive update guys...

Today I managed to get the car back driving well... :party!

* Brakes are fixed
* Air suspension back working good, can raise/lower etc..

The above has been fixed for about €175 which is pretty good. Chuffed to have fixed this up.

I also topped up the coolant, it was very low. As a result, car no longer getting to high temp and the cabin is heating up again Smile

Next big issue to solve is a damn squeaky belt/pulleys, passenger door and sill rust on the O/S.

A great day!

Nice work!

When you get them sorted and running well it’s a great feeling of accomplishment.

Good too see the work is already paying off for you mate. Tbh they are pretty affordable cars as long as your good with the spanners.

Regarding the brackets, make a donation too the site and they are yours. I'll fire you some pics over tomorrow as I'm at work till 6am

Good evening all.

Just a quick update again.

This evening I pressured up the cooling system and found my leak. It is a perished O ring in one of the pipes going to the thermostat housing... very easy to access and blessed with that! Will replace tomorrow.

I'm also potentially dealing with a parasitic battery drain at the moment.

In the morning, I am going to hook up a meter in series with the battery terminal and see what kind of draw there is.

Here is the plan for troubleshooting that:
* Turn off car, remove key.
* Hook up meter in ammeter mode inline with battery cable.
* Wait a while, like 10 minutes to let the car shut itself off.
* Check current draw versus baseline "Idle" draw (Anybody know what that would be?)
* If it's high, start pulling fuses, one by one to see what circuit is causing issue.

I know the FSR is a common cause, but I really do try and have some data on a problem before buying a part.. I'm cheap like that Smile

I have a totally itchy feeling that I might be driving around in a supercharged L322 this weekend... a rough one, but all the same Wink

It is a great place.

Not my normal rented unit though..it was just a temporary unit on the site.

This is my main one.. where I am working on my Clio.

Range has since been moved in there and waiting to tidy up a few more bits before it hits the road.

Great project thanks for sharing. back to your original question (what it is worth), I think we all go through this process to save them and enjoy them ourselves.

I know that what we spend on them will not raise their value anywhere close to what we spend, even if you only spend 2K for it originally. That said we do make them safer - and more enjoyable.

Indeed, we save them because we love them and we want some of them to survive down the line.

Now in 10/15 years L322 will be 'classics' so maybe there will be a 'market' - or not at all, since youngsters will not care about cars to start with LOL

Keep the updates coming sir Thumbs Up l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Yea fair points on price.. I suppose I was just asking you guys in the hopes you'd tell me it would be worth mega money.. so I can feel better about ploughing loads of money into my new project lmao.

It's all good. It actually shan't take massive money to get it to where I want. I think £1k will see a lot of it done I think. (07) 2007 3.6 TDV8 L322 - 135k miles.
