All looks mickey mouse to me from the site to the information txt " better results with a map as our unit just increases fuel pressure and the amount of time the injector stays open " this cannot improve fuel consumtion in anyway. Far to many gone...

It's all very well fooling the rail pressure, but what about the injection maps, drivers wish maps, turbo pressure maps, torque limiter maps, pressure maps, turbo pressure by Patm maps etc. etc.??

You end up with an ECU constantly fighting itself? Used to have:

Now have:

All I can say is that the car is much improved to drive; improved pick up, smoother / stronger acceleration and fuel consumption has improved (proven with tank fill calculation). If I switch the box off the difference is immediatley noticable.
I was dubious before I bought but my experience is of better drivability and consumption figures. 2003 Vogue TD6 - Adriatic Blue - 2010 Facelift & 2010 20" wheels

I thought the idea of this forum was to share experience and help other owners? or was I mistaken.
For info I have nothing what so ever to do with the makers/suppliers of the box and will not be posting on the subject anymore as it seems to have attracted the attention of opinionated d*ckheeds with nothing helpful to contribute. 2003 Vogue TD6 - Adriatic Blue - 2010 Facelift & 2010 20" wheels

^^^ dont worry about it mate, you'll always get people of all sorts everywhere.

to me it doesnt matter what the website looks like, or the appearance of the unit itself, if it works, it works!! like i said before, for a 180 beans, why would you not want to at least give it a try.

on another note, regarding "proper" remaps, i spoke to someone yesterday, who had a "proper" remap and he said it was the best thing he had ever spent money on............ until about a month went by, and a few fill ups later and it want back tod how it used to be!!

i like the reversable nature of these tuning boxes.

I'd be tempted to have remap on my TD6 but would like to know what else it may affect. Obviously the extra power must put a strain on other things.

Do people generally need new gearboxes or other issue after having one fitted.??

Comports,

I don't now all the facts, people on this forum know I heavily favour a remap rather than a plug in box. Companies such as JE Engineering have been tweaking Range Rover engines since the 1970's and have consulted Land Rover along the way too. In my mind they have the greatest experience in the field and therefore the most comfort factor for me.

When I had my TD6 remapped by them I asked similar questions about risk of parts failures etc. Basically (and you should call them and speak to John at JE to get the full version - crackingly enthusiastic chap) they only alter the engines parameters within the capabilities of the entire car. They wouldn't be in business very long if they created a remap that blew transfer boxes and drive shafts all the time.

Commensurately, when my TDV8 ran out of warranty, despite being an excellent car already, I decided to take it to them again, and once again they have transformed the car, and I know that the rest of the car can cope with it.

As said before by someone else, the plug in boxes simply fool the engine, its not a clever solution. A box will be about £250 and a proper remap from JE is £100 more.

Hope that helps.

I think it's all about what levels you want to go to and are prepared to accept....

1) Plug in Box - Far from ideal, 'should' not cause any issues but really a Heath Robinson solution.

2) Standard Remap of Generic Map - Better and OK for 90% but remember this is a map that has been developed for a general TDV8 (or whatever you have) and is not for a specific engine.

3) Live Remap - When I have had upgrades / remaps done to my vehicles (be it cars or bikes) I have always opted for companies that at least ratify the works on a Dyno, ideally tweaking the map live on the rolling road so that it works as well as it can for the individual engine being mapped (be that new ECU or traditional Carbs & jets).

Having said this I will probably opt for the JE map as it's not the type of car where a small flatspot will be that noticeable (hopefully) and I would hope that 315hp & 800nm is not stressing the engine too much (plus it's not a sports car that spends a fair amount of time in the upper rev ranges).

Just my thoughts, but reading some of the posts I would have thought that the more fastidious among us would have looked to have a live map carried out on a rolling road and am surprised that no one has commented on this as yet...

Ditto totally agree or live road remap works well Far to many gone...

considered it, but dismissed on the grounds that a standard JE Map has been tested on a lot of vehicles wheras a one off, even from a very reputable company has had its parimeters changed and could be more risky. Worth the risk on a 500 quid subaru but not a £60K RR
